We're still top yes, great, but where have we finished since the premiership started? Manu & Chelsea have the squads with the experience of winning the EPl, we don't. Its as simple as that and thats why many fans are concerned.

I'm happy to be top of the league obviously, but I don't think for a second thats where we will be come January, let alone May. Torres is a huge loss, we don't have another regular goal scorer in the squad and with this run of games through the xmas period, that is a disaster.

I think theres a huge difference in being negative and being realistic.

    Agreed

Personally don't think we'll be anywhere near 1st place come the end of the season as the same problems which have been there for years have not been resolved

I hope I'm proved wrong though

Yes, but see here you are being negative. When was the last time we went top on the first of December?

        It's not negative. It's realistic

I can't remember the last time we were top come December. However, I can remember quite clearly dropping points against mediocre teams on many a occasion in the past and recent times.

And being top in December is something we should expect with the amount of money that has been shelled out over the years

How is it realistic exactly? You are predicting we will decline in form. How is that realism? It is thinking bad things will happen. Just because you don't grasp the concept of pessimism doesn't mean you are not being pessimistic.

Irrelevant since everyone else as dropped more points.

By that logic Chelsea should be above us since they have spent considerably more.

Not predicting it mate. It's already happening. See our last two games in the league and poor performances in the last two champions league games as well as the Carling Cup

Yeah it is happening already, that is why we have gone from second to a point clear in first.

That's why we've failed to take advantage of slip ups by teams around us. We've still got to go to Man U and the Emirates and we've just dropped 4 points against teams we need to be beating

Some are able to look at things realistically whilst others always look at the bright side and don't see the bigger picture

Last season the Mancs dropped points against:
Reading, Portsmouth, Man City (x2), Bolton, West Ham, Spurs, Boro, Blackburn.

They dropped points against mediocre tems. They won the PL.

Where's all this dropping points against mediocre teams being the portent of doom coming from? Last season I clearly remember most of the negative people banging on about how we need to beat the top 4 to win. We're beating the top 4 and now the problems the mediocre teams?

Can someone please go back to last season and tell the mancs this means their season was ****ed as I'd really rather the scummy *******s hadn't won it. But they did.

And don't start that so much money blah blah bollocks again, we had a lot of ground to catch up so what we've spent hasn't been that much comparitively.

It's not realistic. It's negative. It's taking every single thing and looking at it in the worst possible light.

We're doomed! We're spending ****loads! Let's give up and sack Rafa! Noooooo!!!!!!!

That is complete and utter garbage mate, sorry. Other teams have failed to take advantage of our slips ups too. But is unrealistic to think that we can find form and maintain our position? No we have improved our league position despite not winning. We have beaten Utd and Chelsea with relative ease and we with out Torres and for the most part Gerrard. Arsenal are not great and we will get 3 points from Blackburn at the weekend. Add to that the fact that Utd's record with out Ronaldo recently is appalling and Chelsea have gone from not losing a home game in 4 years to losing 2 in just over a month.

So tell me again, how is being negative being more realistic?

Oh look it isn't. It is however a common misconception

Last season the Mancs were also knocked out of the carling cup by Coventry. Cheers for pointing out another parralel. Signs are looking great

There's nothing realistic in what you say. You should relax a bit and enjoy being top of the league. You are negative because you have decided that we will drop points again and won't be top in January let alone by Christmas. If this isn't negativity then what is it?

                          Realistic.

We'll see what happens in a few months and who's making the excuses come May or who's holding their hands up and apologising for getting it wrong

i am with Sarb on this one.

I figure its realistic as opposed to negative for 2 key reasons: we are losing ground to man u and we are playing pretty ****.

that doesnt fill me with optimism.

you can skew figures all you want. utd have gained 2 points on us in 2 games. over 10 games (9 for us), if we're in a rut, thats 20 points and a 15 point lead.

we're top of the league because we've started very well but equally because they started relatively poorly. but its 3 from 4 games now where we've been dropping points.

im ever hopeful that we click into gear soon and i've no doubt we will at some stage. i just don't want to be well behind the leaders when we do.

i know we can't win every game. but ffs lets beat the likes of fulham and stoke and not pile so much pressure on ourselves to have to go to man u and arsenal and win. thats the bottom line and thats why some people take these latest results as the clear sign that we don't have what it takes to win the league. we are not taking the easy points. if we don't get 3 points at OT and the Emirates then we basically wont win it. had we have taken 9 or 7 points from these games then we'd only need a draw at either to have the same points. we're turning those ties into 6 pointers and the pressure on us when it could have been on them.

we have to hope that our rivals drop points as they have been doing but their track records dont signal that they will.
