Agreed Barnes
Oh and Fredo, that's a typical response from you
Of course I'm not a Liverpool fan. I enjoy wasting my time making 3000 plus posts on a Liverpool forum talking about Liverpool
I'd be over the moon if we won the title. Just my opinion that looking at the way things are going recently it won't happen

Well skewed BarnseyOriginally posted by barnes10 View Posti am with Sarb on this one.
you can skew figures all you want. utd have gained 2 points on us in 2 games. over 10 games (9 for us), if we're in a rut, thats 20 points and a 15 point lead.
we're top of the league because we've started very well but equally because they started relatively poorly. but its 3 from 4 games now where we've been dropping points.
im ever hopeful that we click into gear soon and i've no doubt we will at some stage. i just don't want to be well behind the leaders when we do.
One classic way of skewing figures is to make a hypothetical statement based on an extremely small sample size then extrapolate to justify your belief.
You make an awful lot of assumptions to come to the conclusion that you are being 'realistic'. One that you forget to take into account is that in the past few years Liverpool are the strongest finishers in the League. Now, there is no reason this won't happen this time round. Equally, it might not.
The only assumption you can really make about what is going to happen with the rest of the season is that Liverpool are a point clear at the top of the League right now.
The scums form will peak and dip throughout the season as will ours.
Your energy would be better served supporting the team , rather than conjuring spurious statistics to try and undermine the acheivements of the lads so far this season.

Surely the fact that we are top in December which, in itself is a massive achievement, speaks volumes about the value of both armchair and media pundits in predicting the winners and losers of the Premier League. This is almost an unprecedented position for us since the formation of the PL, and suggests the title is completely within our own hands for one of the only times in 20 years. As much as the perennial pessimists are loath to admit, it is truly our year to prove whether we have what it takes to win the league. If we do, then the negative posters are going to look like complete knobs, and if we don't, then the negative posters may get some vindication but will still be knobs in the eyes of those who stayed loyal to the causeOriginally posted by Sarb24 View PostIt's not negative. It's realistic
I can't remember the last time we were top come December. However, I can remember quite clearly dropping points against mediocre teams on many a occasion in the past and recent times.
And being top in December is something we should expect with the amount of money that has been shelled out over the years

I don't think it's necessary, sensitive or justifiable of you to blame our dip in form on Scaramanga's testicles.Originally posted by slimbimjim View PostWould you rather we were not playing well and firing blanks.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

its amazing how you have quoted someone who was talking about firing blanks after your post in another threadOriginally posted by Neil Young View PostI don't think it's necessary, sensitive or justifiable of you to blame our dip in form on Scaramanga's testicles.
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

- we really should be 4 points clear at the moment, but we've messed up 2 games we should have won comfortably.
- we were only winning games by the odd goal so this was always going to happen.
- without Torres for a month we're going to throw away more points.
Positive:- we always get stronger in the second half of the season under Rafa.
- Torres will be fresh for the second half of the season.
- we've cracked our Top 4 jinx/inferiority complex.
Yes, its nice to be up there right now. The next month for me will be very telling. Keep the current standings into January and this could be a very exciting season.I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

i agree at the small sample size and it'll hopefully prove invalid. but us dropping 'easy' points around now is somethign we do every season and exactly what we must avoid to win this effing thing. its starting to look like that same rut. thats all im really saying. the mancs also typically drop points at the start and then get going, which it looks like they're doing now.Originally posted by babylon View PostWell skewed Barnsey

my sample is small sure, but the wider sample ignores the quality of opposition ourselves and the mancs have faced doesnt it. so neither paints the true picture.
we finish stronger in the league as long as we arent distracted by the CL.
im also getting a bit miffed at the 'if you arent completely happy cos we're top you're not supporting the team' bollocks. i've had plenty of pops at people that i think undermine for the sake of it. i dont believe i am here, i believe we're throwing away the points that would actually win us this league.
the bottom line is the mancs have lost points in trickier ties and will beat these three teams at home. we've lost points in easy ones which puts the pressure onto us.
im only frustrated and annoyed that again we arent doing ourselves justice which, just like every league campaign, means we don't compete for the title in may.

Or looking at it another way, United have dropped 3 points to us over 14 games, therefore over the full season of 38 games, they should finish 8.142857 points behind us (approximately). Mathematically, that is just as valid as your argument, but football is slightly more than mathematics.Originally posted by barnes10 View Post
