    Dossena

Andrea Dossena today revealed how he is putting in extra hours on the training ground to help find his best form.
The 27-year-old Italian has found it hard to establish himself in the first team since arriving from Udinese in July - but an upturn in form against West Ham and PSV bodes well for the future.

In an interview with Liverpoolfc.tv, Dossena put this improvement partly down to staying late at Melwood.

"I have asked to work even harder because I want to find my best form," said the left-back.

"I have been doing extra running and work in the gym as well as other things that are open to all of the team. I have been staying after training to do this.

"Working with Rafa Benitez has been very good. He focuses on the details, which helps you to improve.

"Every day he gives you advice, and also during the match. He does this with every player."

Dossena added: "It has not been easy at the beginning but I think things are better now.

"It's very different from Italian football but I am getting used to it. The game is less physical there. There is more pressure when you are on the ball in England. And another thing is that the pitches are always wetter here!

"I would like to improve defensively. I am only just starting to reach my best level and I hope fans will see that soon."

        Fingers crossed.

I don't hold much hope in all honesty though and I still can envisage him returning to Italy sooner rather than later.

I can argue that he has generally been pretty awful but I respect the guy if he is putting in the hours and doing his best to turn it round. Deserves to get the breaks and I hope he proves eejits like me wrong in that case.

Laying off the doughnuts maybe?? It would be hard not to improve from where he's been. Some lauded his performance the other night, for me it was still the bad side of OK and would have been shocking against somebody better like Spurs. Will he start on Saturday is more interesting to consider?

I think he last two performances have been decent with some excellent passing thrown in. I really think that anyone who feels he has been bad in those games is judging him through the lens of his previous performances (which is fair enough as consistency is key for defenders and unless he puts 10 games of similar quality or better together then questions remain).

As has been pointed out though he obviously has the right attitude and I think there have been enough signs to show he is improving significantly to say it is working. I think he should and will start against Hull.

I've been impressed with Dossena's work rate, at last. He's finally getting the fitness that will make him more than useful as a left sided attacking fullback with a wicked cross. Him and Torres could be crucial for us in the second half of the season, we'll have sorted out our problematic left side and got a finisher back.

He's still a bit keen on the aimless punt downfield for my liking, but there are definitely signs of improvement.

I love how good a crosser of the ball he is! If he can sort himself out defensively, he could be a great player for us.

And he's quite fast for a fat bloke.

I like him, have from day one, you dont become first choice Italian Left Back and not have something about you. His crossing of the ball is the best I have seen since Beckham in his hayday

Seriously have you seen how much purchase he gets on a ball and how he literally wipes the ball in to the box .. just hanging up there in front of the strikers to be hit
