Insua is our best hope in this position. He has only had a couple of starts and never looked out of place. We should develop him while we can. Dossena should not be above playing a couple of weeks in the reserves to prove himself.

He is excellent going forward so he is bringing something to the table. A huge improvement on Riise in that department; he crosses a fantastic ball, overlaps regularly, offers an outlet and can pass the ball, but yes his defending is a huge worry. Hull clearly targeted him - Mendy has electric pace and if I'm not mistaken he hadn't been in the side but was brought in today, for obvious reasons. Dossena is a sitting duck defending in one v one situations. I refuse to believe he shows the same sort of frailty for Italy but for whatever reason in this league people are going past him at will.

      He's running out of time.

Problem is shaggy, that he's costing us goals and his good forward play isnt balancing it out.

People might call me over the top here, but i honestly feel that if Dossena hadnt played today, we'd have won.

We are not in a position to carry any players - let Dossena have a decent run in the reserves to adjust to conditions and give Insua an extended run his showing against Blackburn merits.

That he was beaten to the header for the 1st doesn't make him particularly culpable IMO - it happens and sometimes you've got to hold your hands up to a great leap and header.

The microscope is on him big time and every single minor mistake he's making is being highlighted - an example being the blame he's receiving for that first goal. Even the 2nd to some degree - IMO Carra was just as culpable for inexplicably getting his feet in a tangle to turn the ball in. Despite his obvious inadequacies I do feel he's becoming a bit of a scapegoat.

That said I totally accept the criticism as he looks lost in our back four. He's highly rated in Italy so perhaps we should cut our losses and promote Insua to compete with Aurelio.

I'm not necessarily saying his mistakes today were the worst i've ever seen, but the point is that they happen pretty much every time he plays.

Carra ****ed up royally for the og, but a Carra mistake happens about once every 6 weeks. And he more than makes up for it. Dossena cocks something up every game and doesnt come close to making up for it.

Look at the 2nd goal again - it's embarrassing how easily Mendy is able to beat Dossena and cross.

Dosssena was getting murdered by Mendy every time they came forward in the first half, as said already, they flagrantly targetted him and, especially with Sami's pace (or lack of it) next to him we looked woefully deficient in left sided defensive areas.

Going forward the lad does have a bit about him, but overall at the moment I would even rather we'd kept Riise.

Sorry Shaggy but isnt that, first and foremost, what he is supposed to be/ A defender

Perhaps he will be a lot better with Skittles back in the side. There is some more pace to the defence to cover for his forward runs.

there's not that many fullbacks that don't get turned or skinned a good bit by decent wide players but dossena seems very susceptible.

just shows how good aurelio can be. if he could just get serious sustained runs without injuries he'd be one of the best fullbacks in the league. just like arbeloa.

Nobody, in the remotest of right minds, can ever have called any Dossena performance for LFC, 'class'. Please dont imply that significant numbers of us have done, because it's plainly untrue.

To describe any of his performances as class would be delusional in the most extreme case.

I hope nicey wasnt saying Dossena's crossing was nearly as good as beckhams as i would go as far to say he is the best crosser the world has ever seen! nobody even gets close in modern day football.

But he does have a good cross on him of that there is no doubt.
Mate from the little I have seen of him, and considering he is not firing on all cynlinders ... the way he whips the ball into the box is reminiscent of Beckham ... he literally bends the ball around the defenders and delivers it inch perfect to the attacking players ... truly class .. nobody better in our team for as long as I can remember
