Off the top of my head I would say the only time I can remember thinking he could have prevented a goal was the second against Spurs in the league (when he should not have allowed the cross).
But that is not the point. The issue is he is not a good enough defender and his inclusion in the team gives the opposition a real focal point for their attacks, as witnessed on Saturday. Hull targeted him as our weak link, make no mistake about that.
I'm not doubting he has been poor, nowhere have i said that he is not...at the moment...but i asked a direct question in response to anothers assumption/allegation, and no one cares to answer it.
With Dossena in the squad, we are top of the table. And i think there is more to come from Dossena, if i'm honest. Offensively, he is a great asset, but he needs to improve the defensive side of his game in order to become a firm fixture in the side.

Yeah, but to be fair, in your opinion we lost in Istanbul, so it doesn't count for much.Originally posted by rage View Postwe're top of the league inspite of doseena in our squad imo
Dossena can offer a great deal as a player, attacking wise he occupies the other teams fullback...yes, he does occassionally get caught out (too much for my liking) but then so does Cole, Bosingwa or any attacking fullback you care to name.... but the more games he plays, the quicker he will get to grips with the pace of the premiership, and the defensive side of life.

Dossena cost us 3 points and our first loss against Spurs. He contributed to the 2 dropped against Hull. That's 5 points and how would we all feel to be 6 points ahead of Chelsea at the moment. You could even argue that the Spurs match was the best footballing performance we put in and the loss broke the improvement and development of the team and had we won that we'd be playing better and have more of a gap at the top. BUT....
He causes nothing but panic in the team. Xabi took the ball off his toe a couple of times on saturday as he didn't trust him with the ball. He's a useless defender, he hasn't a clue what position to be in. This nonsense about his crossing is ridiculous. We need a full back to overlap to whip in a ball for who exactly to header? Last time I checked Crouchy was at pompy. Best since David Beckham me backside, how many assists has he got?
He's made the most basic of defensive mistakes costing us goals twice, lunging for the ball with his wrong foot. Its so obviously wrong how it wasn't coached out him by now is beyond me. If i see it happen again I'll need to buy a new telly.
The reason Carra scored the OG was because he was about to ball Dossena out of it after he cleared the ball. You could see his face welling up to start the abuse. Then the ball came and he was trying to do two things at once and he made a balls of it.
The difference in the team when Aureillo is playing is considerable.*************************

And he was lucky not to concede a penalty in the CL home game against Marseille.
I think alot of people on here accept he is not good enough but feel compelled to defend him because some of the comments against him just go beyond what is acceptable criticism of one of our own players. Lets not forget, he is one of us still.

Dont we mark zonally?Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI think he is scape-goated too. McShane was Alonso's man at the weekend, but because Dossena tried to get back over and cover when Alonso left him and was unable to make the challenge. He was at fault for the second goal but no more so than Carragher.

Not all the time and not with every player. Watch the replay. It is really clear.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostDont we mark zonally?
