I honestly think benitez has lost the dressing room coz of his decision making. It isn't a happy camp now. if results dont go there way which i hope they do for Feb Benitez has to be man enough to say he got things wrong instead of comparing past seasons and making excuses .

Looks like he is on his way. Hope they have a replacement lined up asap!
Even though in the past few weeks I have not supported Rafa on the way he has gone to the media or his substitutions, if the essence of that article is true, then a restructuring of powers has to happen at Anfield. A manager has to have complete control on the footballing side of things. Given a budget a board has to trust the managers footballing judgment.

If the board does not trust the manager to spend the money wisely then either the manager should be fired or should be convinced to work in a director of football system.

IMO if Rafa wanted to spend 25 million out of the available 30 million on Barry then he should have been backed. He should have been told in clear terms: it is your call to spend 80 % of the transfer budget on a midfielder, you have little money left for the rest. If we don't challenge for the league your head is on the line. Manager makes the footballing decisions and is held accountable for them.

And I really don't understand the manager not having control over the academy. It is in the best interest of the manager to have a successful academy. All this talk of if the manager leaves, then academy will change. And so it is better for continuity reason, that the academy remains out of the control of the manager.

That is not how we plan for. We identify a good manager. Trust his long term vision and make working conditions for him as comfortable as any other club in the world. Make sure that he does not feel the need to leave. We dont plan for a manager being sacked or leaving the club.

The board should make sure that managing LFC is the most attractive job in football management in England. That is the only way we are going to match the Mancs or the Chelski's in the long term.

If that is the case and Keane wasn't Rafa's target in the first place, I think I might actually throw up. What a ****ing sorry state of affairs.

Hang on. Is it being suggested that Parry was given a choice of two players to go out and get, and he picked Keane? That just seems strange in so many ways. I can't see Rafa saying to Parry get me either one of a CM or a striker. You'd think he'd have a position on the field listed as top priority and a couple of names as possible targets. I can see him deciding that he needs a striker and having to choose between two targets, but I can't see him having two targets who play in totally different positions knowing that he will only get one of them.

I'd be surprised if Parry just went out and decided to buy Keane himself. So surely Rafa must have wanted keane, but maybe only if he couldn't have Barry.

My guess is Rafa wanted Barry first and then Keane. However Villa started playing hardball. At that time Rafa would have preferred to buy Barry and loose Keane but Parry overruled him. I think Keane is our Shevchenko.

IMO Rafa wanted both Barry and Keane.

In both transfers Liverpool were quoted over the odds. Rafa was willing to pay over the odds for Barry. He was not willing to pay over the odds for Keane.

Because both were quoted over the odds Parry made the decision to sign Keane. In his opinion we needed Keane more than Barry, since we had lost Peter Crouch. Yet were still strong in the CM position with Xabi staying.

On the outside looking in you can see why Parry made that call. But even if Keane had proved a raging success it matters not. The call should land on the shoulders of the manager. He should have total control of all transfers and it is he who should decide how much of the budget goes on each player.

Many clubs have proved in the past that in British football the director of football does not work. Nor does Benitez like it and it is the reason he left Valencia. Why should he carry the can for the lack of success of players brought in by Parry, who in truth knows **** all about the football side of things.

Rick Parry should be run out of town if this is true as we will sell keane for £15m and thats a loss of £5.2m in only six month period and that is gross misconduct in my books so he should be ****ing sacked and at a time when we are strapped for cash and are in debt up to our eye balls. If i was he boss he would be right out the door after pulling something like this as if i was paying a football manager £5m a year and the CEO overruled him and spent the money on something else i would be pissed big time.

Maybe this will be the final nail in the coffin for Parry as it is being reported that rafa will get his contract demands so maybe this Keane saga has made the yanks realise that parry should not be calling the shots.

Looks to me like Rafa is blaming Parry for this expensive mistake. Widespread reports now that Keane is off back to Spurs. If we get £15m then it wont be too bad but this clearly shows there is a lack of clarity over who runs what area of the club. Will be interesting to hear what the yanks say tomorrow

ROBBIE KEANE has suffered yet another humiliating snub by Rafa Benitez after being axed from today’s squad to face Chelsea.

And that could drive the £20m striker into Tottenham’s arms. Harry Redknapp will make a last ditch bid to re-sign Keane ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline after being given every encouragement by Benitez a deal can be done.

But the move by Redknapp will send the Liverpool boss on another collision course with his board.

The Anfield hierarchy are not convinced it is the right call and would only sell if the full £20m can be recouped. Even then, Keane would have final say.

Keane has been wrestling with a dilemma since hearing of Spurs’ interest — first exclusively reported in the Sport of the World on December 6.

He’s in despair at the way his Anfield career has gone — but won’t ask to leave.

Yanks: Rick you ****ed up big time there with Keane and cost us £5.3m so **** off now! Rafa here is your contract BUT if things don't get better by the end of the season it will be short lived as we are not paying you £5m a year for the performances the team have been having for the past few months. Do you really thing that losing a 8 point lead over the mancs and now being 5 pint behind justifies this??

                          Rafa: K

For me the Keane situation is really simple now, you either play him regularly with Torres for the rest of the season or you sell him by Monday night. Theres the 2 options.

Clearly Rafa is going with the latter option otherwise he would have been in the squad for tomorrow
