Mourinho Believes we can win it, more brown nosing the reds

"It has been interesting watching Liverpool this season," Mourinho wrote in the Sunday Telegraph. "I think they have everything they need to win the title.

"I still can't understand why they didn't do it in the last four years. Why wouldn't they be able to do it this season? Of course they can.

"The manager is good, the players are good, the crowd is unique, the tradition of the club is big, so why can't they do it? I think they can."

Mourinho warned, however, that the resumption of the Champions League at the end of next month could again be a distraction for the Anfield club.

"Usually it is when the Champions League starts that they lose their focus on the Premiership," he continued. "It was like this in previous years when they did very well in the Champions League but they lost too many points in the championship.

"They have already lost 10 points at home by drawing the kind of matches they used to win. Against Stoke, Fulham, West Ham, Hull and Everton it has been two points lost. So if you can imagine that they had those 10 points now, they would be top of the league as pointed out on many reds forums ."

The Portuguese also played down the recent spat between Benitez and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

"As for these stories I read about Rafael Benitez and Alex Ferguson exchanging words, this is all part of the game," he said.

"It is part of the fight you have to make to win a title, part of the pressure that managers try and put on other managers, clubs and structures to try to get an advantage but i agree with Rafa that Alex is a drunken old fool.

"I think Benitez and Ferguson respect each other and both know they are contenders for the title. I don't think it is personal."

Meanwhile, Mourinho hailed the decision of Kaka to snub the advances of Manchester City and remain in Serie A with AC Milan.

"I am happy that Kaka didn't go there," he said. "I want the best players to be in my league. I want my league to be as strong as possible and of course Kaka is absolutely top.

"It would have been very, very bad for Italian football if Kaka had left Serie A.

"When a player like him decides to join City it will be because they have proved there is a big project; because I don't think a player like Kaka is going to leave a club like Milan because of one euro more or one euro less."

He's the Italian team coach currently.

I'd hate Rafa to leave and there aren't many appropriate replacements available as it is. I'm pretty disappointed some people would want Mourinho as our manager. Assuming Rafa is off, realistically in that position I'd like us to be looking at Cesare Prandelli of Fiorentina or Luciano Spalletti from Roma although whether or not either of them could hack it here is debatable.

I know this sounds odd but I would worry about the defensive qualities of any manager coming from Italy at the minute.

I think I understand your reasoning but could you elaborate? I think that Prandelli will end up being a fantastic coach. He certainly knows how to develop youth.

Also does anyone know how Michael Laudrup is going at Spartak Moscow? He looked like he was going to be an excellent coach when he was with Getafe last season. Speaking of Getafe, Schuster isn't too shabby himself, although things turned sour for him at Madrid.

To think Blackburn chose Ince over Laudrup

In the last 5 years in my opinion the PL has become one of the strongest defensive leagues in the world and both Chelsea and United when winning and challenging have had exceptional defensive units. Italian teams in Europe (barring Milan who have a defense seemingly forged at the dawn of time) seem to always offer a glimmer of hope these days, they lack the link between tactics and intensity that I see as at the heart of the new top half of the PL defensive strength.

A prime example would be the 7-1 thrashing United handed out to Roma a few years back. United took a lot of tactical tricks in an attacking sense last season from the style of that Roma team but what made them different was that the allied it to defensive excellence. It is a tough task but it is that link that I feel is needed currently in the PL and Serie A no longer seems to provide the environment for developing such things and so bring a coach from there to the PL seems like a big risk.

The only question asked at an interview is Can you work with Rick Parry and would you be happy for him to choose who we buy and sell and when we do it??

Also Mourinho (sp) would have defended a 1 goal lead against Everton, he was slated for that during his time at Chelsea (they didn't have anything else to throw at him) he won the league twice and was sacked to bring in a more expansive coach and have won sweet F.A since.
