Shrek the cunt does our teamtalk....

    From the beeb, http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...td/7940340.stm

Wayne Rooney says victory for Manchester United on Saturday will end Liverpool's hopes of claiming the Premier League title this season.

United are currently seven points ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand.

"We’re in pole position and know if we can beat Liverpool then that’ll more or less end their chances of winning the league," the striker told MUTV.

"I’m very excited about the game because I grew up as an Everton fan hating Liverpool, that hasn’t changed!"

The pair meet at Old Trafford on Saturday with United knowing that victory would move them closer to their third successive Premier League title.

It would leave Liverpool 10 points adrift, with only 27 to play for.

"They know, in coming to Old Trafford, it's going to be a difficult game for them," said Rooney.

"They also know they need the three points and I'm sure they'll be up for it - we certainly will be."

Both sides experienced European success in midweek with Liverpool thumping Real Madrid 4-0 and United edging past Inter Milan 2-0.

United, by their own admission, were out of sorts on Wednesday but centre-half Rio Ferdinand has warned Liverpool that they will be back to their best on Saturday.

The England defender also sounded a word of caution, claiming United will not celebrate winning the title until it is mathematically secured.

"They've had a good week, getting a great result against Real Madrid," he said.

"We're in for a tough game with a great atmosphere, a different entity altogether (compared to Inter), and one we can't wait for.

I couldn't care what happens to Liverpool as long as we beat them

"Could it end their title chances? Possibly, yeah. But we still have games after that to win. It's the same at this stage of the season all the time.

"People say, 'If you win this game, you win the league', but it just continues until it's mathematically over and one team wins it, and hopefully that will be us.

He added: "If we win, it will obviously make it hard for them but I couldn't care what happens to Liverpool as long as we beat them.

"If we do that and that leads to people thinking they're out of it, then so be it.

"We're there to win games, we're at home and people will be expecting us to get the three points.

"Fingers crossed we can go out there, do a good job and give a good account of ourselves."
"Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

hopefully rafa sticks with the same line up as against madrid. why change a winning formula? i know it's away from home, and at old trafford no less, but i hope rafa doesn't change the team. the players will be buzzing with confidence after mid week and so should continue in the starting 11. babel deserves to continue in the team given his last couple of performances which have been slightly better than riera's.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Imy's spot on, Fergie will have the troops ready as they usually are. Lets hope Gerrard, Alonso, Carragher don't hide and show the leadership skills in order to win this game.

Balague made a very good point on LFC TV. Commenting on the game ahead, he said along the lines of: 'United, man for man have the better team. They have more match winners which is why tactics are very key for this game. I think if Liverpool approach the game like some big games, for sure, they can win. I expect Liverpool to have a deep line and hit United on the counter with the pace of Torres and Gerrard.'

It is important no mistakes are made in this game. Too many times in the past have we gifted United the first goal which would kill us off. Carragher has to be keep the defenders on their toes and alive to everything. Alonso and Mascherano, who has a lot to prove, are essential to us. Springing counters, spreading the play especially on the right side of United where if we are cute and clever enough, expose Ronaldo's unwillingness to track back and O Shea's inability to change his body positions quickly. And finally, Gerrard, who hasn't really performed against United for a very long time. Its important he stays as close to Torres as possible, drawing Vidic away from Ferdinand therefore exploiting one of the most toughest defences in Europe.

If that doesn't happen, we will lose. had to slip in some negativity.

I wonder if they'll be handing out thousands of scum flags to 'get the atmosphere going' like they did on Wednesday night

I'm feeling quite upbeat this morning, even the crushing blow of another Degen injury has failed to stop me looking forward to this one.

If Torres is as sharp as he was on Tuesday he could give us a glimmer of a chance. As usual though I think the best way to get through Utd is by having a go at the full backs - I remember Riera (or maybe Aurelio?) having a glorious chance early on last year before it all went tits up.

I think we're going to do badly tomorrow which I hope is a sign that we can (for once) go to Old Trafford and play.
