Yep. We've certainly missed him at times this season, and I reckon had he played more games we'd have more points. It's unfortunate but that's why you need adequate cover in your squad, which sadly we've been missing thanks to some serious misjudgments in our transfer dealings

Problem is though, who can possibly adequately cover for Torres? Nobody. Anyone remotely near to his ability would be a first teamer anyway.

It's a fair point you raise, he is the best striker in the world so clearly no one is else is going to be much of alternative in comparison. But we do have a lack of cover and it is something we need to address.

Heck even having Voronin back may have helped at times.

We need to sign Michael Owen in the summer.

The only top class striker who would likely be happy to be on the bench and get his fair share of games. The rotation would do him a world of good too.

It's funny that thought has been going through my head over the last few weeks. Believe that he would accept a squad place as part of the deal and with time on the bench he would hopefully not suffer as badly with injuries. His record for Newcastle is still pretty impressive, isn't it about 1 goal every 2 ames?

I would certainly not be surprised, nor disappointed, to see this transfer happening this summer.

As do I. He's not world class anymore but he remains a quality goalscorer. Another boon is that he and Gerrard know each other's games inside out. Otherwise I have my doubts as to how he'd fit in to our style of play but for peanuts it'd make sense, big time.

Yeah - very impressive. He's a better finisher than he's given credit for. Still a threat without the electric pace.

He would settle in straight away and would offer a decent alternative to Torres and Gerrard. And him and Stevie know eachothers games inside out.

                  Free transfer. Get it done.

What annoys me is how 1 person has mentioned this 9 out of 29 stat and every single paper is running with it all of a sudden. Have they only just realised how massive a problem it's been now someone has spoon-fed them the stat?

Absolutely .. I'd rather we go for one worldclass player each season or every second season than spending 30 million on 7 players with potential and fully utilise the youth system plus wheel and deal a little

I'm actually very happy with the basis of the squad we have right now. It is essential we sign up Agger and then add to it here and there .. But one thing is sure we need players of Bennys obvious quality who are happy to sit on the bench and take there chances ala Man United for the past 20 years

Agree, this has been a massive blow to us & I agree we need to resign Maicky in the summer plus a top class LW.

Didnt Tomkins show that we acually have a relatively good record without Stevie & NAndo tho? We arent over-reliant on them, but any team would miss them 2.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Well it is basically because until now the story has been 'Liverpool in crisis'/'Rafa cracking up' - running that now would make them look like ****s (fairly obviously - although the Times still rather amusingly printed that article on Sunday talking about Mourinho as a possible new manager) so they have to find a reason that didn't admit that they were wrong. So few journalists actually attempt to inform their audience they all rush to find the headlines.

Annoys me too, i've felt for a while that Rafa/LFC has been getting a rough ride from the media, with certain FACT'S not even being considered, what's that they say..'Why spoil a good story with a little detail like the truth'. Tossers.

Amazing how many positive articles today/yesterday. Getting stuck in to Fergie for saying 'we were the better team'.

I can picture Rafa sitting back in the sofa with Montse watching a replay with a big **** off smile on his face, turning to Montse saying "he's cracking up"

                              Let's hope he is.
