I know this isn't the worlds best way of measuring things but on fantasy.premierleague.com he has 129 pts putting him as the 4th best midfielder behind Lampard, Gerrard and Ronaldo (and only one forward - Anelka - has more points than he does).

Off the top of my head, Ronaldo is the only RW who has scored more league goals. You might be able to count Agbonlahor as he plays as a 'right sided forward' quite a lot, similar in a way to where Kuyt plays, but probably further up the park.

In fact, out of the PL's 15 top scorers, only five arent players who play as an 'out and out striker/forward' - and Kuyt is one of them.

Good point that, Ronaldo must have scored about 3 or 4 penalties in the league. One against us, one where Riley gave him a pen for what was a superb tackle (cant remember who it was against). One against Everton. There must've been a couple more.

Regardles of the semantics can we agree that although kuyt isn't what we all expect or want from a right sided attacker/right winger he is very effective.

Imagine (and this isnt a dig at Riera, before people reach for the tar and feathers) if Riera had managed 7 or 8 league goals from the other wing, we'd be on course for having a very decent contribution of goals from the non-Torres or Gerrard wing of the attacking unit.

In future seasons, if we could get 25 league goals from Nando, 15-20 from Gerrard, and a combined 15 from Kuyt and Riera, that'd be a decent return from the front four.

I want goals and a goal threat - and he delivers that.

How he goes about doing it, doesnt matter to me. He wont outpace a fullback, do a stepover or beat his man often, but the final outcome is all that matters - and he's delivering goals.

Any player that shows as much passion and works as hard as he does for the team is a massive asset

I don't think Kuyt has improved as a player actually. I think the big difference is that with Riera balancing the other side of the team he has had better opportunities and we have as a team been able to use his strengths better.

I have long said that Kuyt has been contributing but not getting the credit as people don't find him aesthetically pleasing. At times people have been willing to argue that even if his ball led to a goal that the whole thing was down to the brilliance of the scorer.

Babel's goal against United being a prime example. Because the ball hit a divot and bobbled some people nearly wanted the assist to be taken away from him.

I have learned to love Dirk, so long as he doesn’t play up front. He’s a rubbish striker but on the right for us he has been/is immense. He’s hardly ever injured (can anyone remember the last time he missed a game through injury??), puts an unreal shift in and has now added league goals to his game. He can sometimes still have his limitations exposed by 10 man defences, and at times like those I wish we had a more gifted alternative, but he’s become one of the first names on my team-sheet – not something I envisaged happening a year or so ago.
