    Kuyt

Does it surprise anyone else to know that he has 8 league goals this season?

Dont get me wrong, it's not exactly prolific but bearing in mind he plays as a midfielder and doesnt possess the pace and quality of a Torres, it has to be said that this is a good return. I dont associate him with being a prolific goalscorer but he chips in every now and then. Clearly those odd goals have amounted to a pretty decent total so far this season.

To put it into context, Rooney is considered to be some kind of world class genius by the media - and he has 9 league goals. Defoe is thought of as an 'out and out goalscorer' - and he has 9 too.

Agbonlahor is often touted as being one of english football's brightest attacking stars - he has 10.

All of those three have good pace and all three are widely regarded as being very good players. Along with all the 'ugly' stuff Dirk does, he deserves a lot of credit for producing a decent amount of goals this campaign. And in terms of the media, he gets virtually none.

8 in the league (and 10 in all comps) so far is a very good return. Well in Dirk

I think someone has mentioned on here recently that he has a good amount of assists as well (Dave was it?)

It seems like, with all the workrate he puts it, his tangible goalscoring & assisting contributions are ignored. With 2 CL games to come in the next two weeks, he could well add to his tally. He ususally chips in at this stage of the CL, as the games get more important

I think he's improved a lot this season, i dont know whether he's changed what he tries to do or what, but he no longer strikes me as someone whose perceived lack of ability means he looks out of place in our first XI.

He's not a 'flashy' superstar by any means but he does offer a worthwhile and valuable contribution. His virtually perfect attitude is just a great bonus.

He hasn’t got as many assists as usual (blame Keane ), and although they have only credited him with 4, a few were unfairly taken away from him because of slight deflections (not that I’ve been paying much attention or anything).

Dave usually mentions his Fantasy Football score if I remember correctly.

I think he’s just appreciated more. For the last 3-4 months of last season Kuyt was arguably our best player.

He has had an excellent season. I said last year that it he could get 10-15 goals in the league then he would be challenging - he has really stepped up. For me it is arguable that he is as valuable to us as Rooney is to United.

I think he's done more positive things on the field, to earn this appreciation though. I love his work rate, but i always maintain that it's not worth a huge amount if the player doesnt show ability too. He's shown that more this season, from what i have seen.

He looks more comfortable in possession, and i no longer think that he's going to lose the ball when he gets it, where i did used to some of the time.

He just appears far more confident and assured, and i think his contributions this season have had more 'impact'. I think he's actually been directly responsible for goals and chances this season, more so than previously.

He's a bloody good player and much underrated by many of our fans. He's not the A-typical right winger but if he is effective who gives a ****. And he is

I dont know if you saw the '60 minutes with Dirk Kuyt' thing on LFCTV recently, but he acknowledged himself that he is 'not a winger' but said that he plays the position 'his way' and that's a credit to him - there's little i hate to see more in football, than a player who doesnt know his limitations and consistently tries things he's clearly incapable of. Kuyt is the opposite of this and i bloody appreciate him for it, because players of that ilk drive me up the wall.

I don't think Kuyt has improved as a player actually. I think the big difference is that with Riera balancing the other side of the team he has had better opportunities and we have as a team been able to use his strengths better.

I have long said that Kuyt has been contributing but not getting the credit as people don't find him aesthetically pleasing. At times people have been willing to argue that even if his ball led to a goal that the whole thing was down to the brilliance of the scorer.

How many right wingers have scored more? assisted more? in the league this year.

And I guarentee you none of them work as hard for the team all over the pitch. He's a fantastic player for us and sets a standard for what the Liverpool way is, was and should always be.

Off the top of my head, Ronaldo is the only RW who has scored more league goals. You might be able to count Agbonlahor as he plays as a 'right sided forward' quite a lot, similar in a way to where Kuyt plays, but probably further up the park.

In fact, out of the PL's 15 top scorers, only five arent players who play as an 'out and out striker/forward' - and Kuyt is one of them.

Good point that, Ronaldo must have scored about 3 or 4 penalties in the league. One against us, one where Riley gave him a pen for what was a superb tackle (cant remember who it was against). One against Everton. There must've been a couple more.

Kuyt can be proud of what he's achieved this season, he had to step up and to be fair he has.
