And I don't want a number 7 until we sign someone worthy of it. It's just another number at the end of the day, but the pressure that comes with it requires a top player.
But it's not numbers that win trophies, it's players.
What about handing Gerrard the 7 shirt? He has come out recently and said he wants to play with the club for life. He is capable of handling the pressure associated with it and no one deserves it more. In the role that he now plays for the club, he could be considered a number 7 now as well. He doesnt play the same as Dalglish, but he is occupying that same position off a strong number 9.
I know it sounds mental, but I'd love to see it. I think that Gerrard is capable of casting the albatross that is associated with the number aside.
