I used to be one of the anti-Kuyt brigade but am now most definitely on his side. I'm not afraid to admit when I am wrong.

If too many coaches show too much loyalty to players like Kuyt we'll be headed into the dark days of football again. Saying that, I think Kuyt has been very good for us at times and he is a phenomenally nice guy.

I remember him at Anfield in 2007 against Middlesborough (won 2-0) and though he was sh*t all game, he went round the ground and clapped all the fans and made a special effort to do so. Other players did similar but not to the extent of Kuyt. I'm sure he does this every game.

Personally, I think with Kuyt's engine and strength he would make a great defensive midfielder. Probably better than Mascha as he can score goals occasionally and get into intelligent positions.
