yeah life has gone on without him... but I don't see any league trophies since his retirement. Not saying that makes him the world's best judge of modern day football... but the man has won the ****ing league. And I tell you one thing, if you think the people he still socialises with (Dalglish, Molby, Barnes, etc) don't question all things Liverpool behind closed doors you are naive.

You may well be a red but coming on and abusing posters in your first few posts is no way to win friends. This site aims to engender respect between posters and I'm going to edit the posts above to reflect that. It would be appreciated if everyone would conduct themselves in a more friendly manner from now on.Originally posted by liverpoolratI was born in Liverpool and support Liverpool."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think this week of all weeks, we should be respecting those who have done their bit. A few comments by an ex-player (of his standing)... that may well be proved completely correct should not ever make him fair game to be called a ******. Fair do's if its a snidey Ince or someone, but RONNIE WHELAN?!Originally posted by dww View PostYou may well be a red but coming on and abusing posters in your first few posts is no way to win friends. Jesus, the man could do no wrong in my eyes 20 years ago.
Apart from that own goal, but that was probably because he is a manc deep down right?
Apologies for what I said, but I am actually totally right on this.

Sorry bud but it isnt a few comments for us who live in Ireland both in the Republic and Gods Own Country
He is on RTE every fecking week having a go no matter what we do and perhaps you have still to meet his best friends Dunphy and Giles..... FECKERS
That is of course the same Dunphy who said if Rafa won the CL with "that" team he deserved manager of the century...... a month or so later a few scousers were in Istanbul
I will always blame Moores and Parry.

at the end of the day he is giving an opinion on football- its not like he's giving an opinion to THAT RAG.Originally posted by Lisburn Red View PostSorry bud but it isnt a few comments for us who live in Ireland both in the Republic and Gods Own Country

I just don't think, no matter how controversial he may be about a team or a manager, that should mean that the consus of our club is to regard him as a ******.
I give opinions on Benitez all the time to my mates in the pub, at half time etc... I wouldn't boo during a match or anything- but opinions on footballing matters are totally legitimate. We are all reds- when we turn on our greats what the **** have we got left? Who next?

at £400 I don't think I'll be doing the Anfield experience again for a while- good day out though.Originally posted by Lisburn Red View PostOf course you are...ask him about his mate Dunphy next time you are chatting
Maybe this is more beef over Irish sea with him than I was aware of him, but I wouldn't be calling Dalglish a name like that if he sat on a Jock chatshow with Denis Law every week.
Certainly no one I know over here has an issue with Whelan- and I would hate the thought of him getting anything less than a great reception at Anfield.

Its nothing to do with with what show he is on or who with...its about what he says and who he backs up in their comments...Kenny Dalglish is red through and through and not just on corporate days out where he is getting paid for the pleasure. If Dalglish came out and said something critical of the club that would really worry me as I wouldn't doubt him for a second. Ronnie Whelan however..........Originally posted by liverpoolrat View Postat £400 I don't think I'll be doing the Anfield experience again for a while- good day out though.

lads, honestly I have every respect for what Ronnie did as a red, he was one of my idols as a lad and I really looked up to him because he was irish and successful at a time when even being Irish wasnt the best policy
that said, the way he talks about our club goes over the borderline of skepticism or healthy cynicism and into the downright disrespectful and spiteful, seriously. It has really changed my whole opinion of the man. I dont care if he is mates with king kenny or hansen or whoever,I judge him on how he conducts himself as a former player and therefore ambassador of this club and he fails.
I suspect that he tries to keep in the spirit of much rte coverage whcih is based on being snidey and occasionally funny but usually with little real insight. He has had me chucking bacon butties towards the telly a fair few times. You would never get most of the ex reds behaving this way.
This season isnt even over and he is getting the boot in. I wonder what he will say if we pull this off and win the league against the odds.LFC - the footballing Phoenix. Watch us rise.

there are a number of ex-pro's that are often critical of the club. Houghton, St John, Lawrenson are the first that spring to mind... but I don't believe for one second that they don't want to see us lift the title.Originally posted by Lisburn Red View PostIts nothing to do with with what show he is on or who with...its about what he says and who he backs up in their comments...Kenny Dalglish is red through and through and not just on corporate days out where he is getting paid for the pleasure. Their careers are famous for being associated with LFC. If the club became a Huddersield forty years from now (ridiculous I know), their legacy is diminished. They still love the fans, the history, the ground, the traditions... I really believe that Whelan has our best interests at heart.
And are our players good enough to win the league? If we don't win it next month, the answer was NO.
Blame injuries, blame decisions, blame bad luck, blame fixtures, blame anything you like, but unfortunately it would have been the players and manager that weren't quite up to it.
Here's hoping next month we're bladdered in town and laughing at them down the M6- but let's not forget first is everything, second is nothing. And three years without a trophy doesn't make for great reading.

has being Irish ever been the best policy?! Well I spoze the accent might be worth having in student bars in Boston...Originally posted by redpablo View Postlads, honestly I have every respect for what Ronnie did as a red, he was one of my idols as a lad and I really looked up to him because he was irish and successful at a time when even being Irish wasnt the best policy

He is giving an opinion now- he's putting his neck on the line I grant you. But I'd rather he tell it how he thinks it is now, rather than put the boot in AFTER the event with the benefit of hindsight like many others will. Or would you rather he just sat on the fence giving bland non-commital answers.... when he may have an opinion that holds some water.

"has being Irish ever been the best policy?! Well I spoze the accent might be worth having in student bars in Boston" I'll put that down to scouse wit shall I? Stick a safety wink in there next time maybe?
There is a difference between giving an opinion and indeed telling it like he sees it and being disrespectful towards the club which gave him his name and he served well. There is more than one way to skin a cat and instead of opinion which may even be contrary to my own, which I would respect, he veers towards the being of the ballbag. The man has earned the right to say his piece but when he spouts garbage with a sneer I say sod off, ex player or not.LFC - the footballing Phoenix. Watch us rise.

ha ha in-joke actually targetted at an Irish mate of mine who I think will be reading this... he tried claiming that he got nicked the other week on the train because he was Irish... nothing to do with the 12 Magners and Ozzie Whites he'd necked an hour earlier... went onto highlight the ongoing discrimination he receives all the time in England. ****ing bollocks! Throw a few "b'Jesus's" and "grands" into any sentence in the Blue Angel and you'll have to fight the clout off ya!Originally posted by redpablo View Post"has being Irish ever been the best policy?! Are there any "worse offenders" than Whelan in your book?
