Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has told Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee that there was no need to become involved in his dispute with Rafa Benitez.

Last week Allardyce joined forces with Manchester United chief Sir Alex Ferguson in accusing Reds leader Benitez of failing to show respect to rivals.

The accusation came as a result of hand gestures made by the former Valencia manager during Liverpool's 4-0 victory over Rovers on 11th April.

Benitez chose not to respond to the allegation but on Monday his right-hand man, Lee, defended the event and described Allardyce and Ferguson's comments as 'quite sad'.

    Upset

And Allardyce has been upset by the opinion of his former Bolton No.2, telling Sky Sports News: "There was no need for Sammy to get involved.

"It wasn't a situation I was going to get him involved in. It was a situation that was between me and Rafa Benitez.

"If anyone should have spoken, it should have been Rafa Benitez and not Sammy Lee."

Allardyce, who is fighting a Premier League relegation battle with Rovers, has also rubbished Lee's claims that he did not attempt to confront Benitez immediately after the heavy setback at Anfield.

"My situation was that, as I repeat, there was the situation to speak to him in his room and he wasn't there," he concluded.

Fat Sam should just zip it now and give up on the hypocricy. Telling Sammy Lee not to interfere when his mate whiskeybreath dove right into the argument last week and abused Rafa.

I just pray that Blackburn go down and am just sorry that we might put another team between them and the drop this weekend.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Got to feel sorry for the Blackburn fans having this feckin moron anywhere about them.

He has risen up the ranks and sits nicely with Fergi and Maureen for being the top 3 cocksuckers of football management.

Would have liked to have heard a bit more from Blackburn fans, telling Fat Sam not to get involved with Fergies little stunts and get the **** on with his job of keeping them up.

The top 4 have nothing whatsoever to do with Allardyce, it's a level that HE will NEVER reach, he should concentrate on relegation battles, that's his place in the game...Bottom of the table.

On the day Allardyce says this (even though Lee is LFC assistant manager), "There was no need for Sammy to get involved. It was a situation that was between me and Rafa Benitez." He goes on to say this:

Sam Allardyce has delivered a withering put-down to Roy Keane after the Irishman's "bizarre" outburst at his former Manchester United team-mates who have become managers.

Keane, the new Ipswich manager, questioned whether Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes should be regarded as "good managers" or successful because they have yet to win a trophy - but Allardyce said Keane himself had a long way to go to be seen alongside either of his former United team-mates.

Allardyce, whose Blackburn team come up against Bruce's Wigan side on Sunday, told PA Sport: "I find that statement to be quite bizarre to be perfectly honest."

He added: "What Sparky and Brucey have done with the resources they have had shows they are both top managers and very, very capable managers.

"I think that Roy's a long distance away from a Steve Bruce and a Mark Hughes by his lack of experience in the job. So I find that quite a bizarre statement and I wouldn't agree with that at all."

Hughes meanwhile has reminded Keane he is not the only one with a fierce hunger to succeed as a manager.

And he feels Thursday's observations were just an example of his former team mate shooting from the hip without necessarily giving a great deal of thought to the substance of his words.

"Roy is just making a statement," smiled Hughes. "The media are very glad he is back on the scene because he is good value.

"I don't think many managers who get appointed to a mid-table Championship team could make the impact Roy has.

"It is a compliment to him and the personality he has. He has taken on a big task there, just as I have here. It is about driving our clubs forward."

Exactly. It's not even irritating because it's so, what would Sammy Lee say, oh yes, 'sad'.

                          from the daily mail

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has explained the reason behind his arm-waving gesture which outraged Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce.

Allardyce accused Benitez of showing a lack of respect as a result of gestures made by the Spaniard following Liverpool's second goal in the 4-0 win at Anfield.

Manchester United chief Sir Alex Ferguson also accused Benitez of showing contempt to Allardyce with the gesture, but Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee defended Benitez claiming the Reds boss was communicating with his own players.

Benitez has now revealed he made the gesture in reaction to Xabi Alonso not agreeing to his orders when taking a setpiece.

"Xabi Alonso and Emiliano Insua were standing over a free-kick and I was shouting orders to them in Spanish," Benitez told the Daily Mail.

"I kept saying, "Play it short" because I thought there could be a surprise element. But Xabi just whipped it straight into the area and when Fernando Torres headed it in, he turned round and gave me a big grin.

"I had to laugh and I just made a sign to say, 'OK, don't listen to me'."

Why couldnt those points have just been made public at the time, it would've finished this whole non story and made Allardyce look an even bigger doofus.

TONY BARRETT: Why Sam Allardyce is so big on disrespect
Apr 25 2009 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

HOW do you measure disrespect in sport?

In snooker Ronnie OSullivan was once accused of acting disdainfully towards Alain Robidoux by playing left handed.

Back in 1967, the American media claimed the legendary Muhammad Ali had brought boxing into disrepute by imploring Ernie Terrel to say my name as he pummelled his opponent.

While in rugby union a sense of outrage consumes the All Blacks should any opposition team by deemed to be showing disrespect to the Haka.

When he decided to play Muttley to Alex Fergusons Dick Dastardly last week, big Sam Allardyce - surely the big is not an indication of his brainpower - ended up with enough egg on his face to make a dozen omelettes.

Especially given the fact that just three years ago Allardyce was himself accused of being disrespectful and on that occasion the evidence was much more compelling.

With his Bolton team 3-0 up and coasting away to Watford in the FA Cup, the then Bolton boss decided to bring on youth team keeper Sam Ashton but instead of replacing Ian Walker in goal, he came on for centre forward Jared Borgetti and played up front.

A game over gesture if ever there was one.

Funny how big Sam forgot to mention that one when he had his big rant.
