Are we better than Man Utd?

No. They are better in several areas, especially wings and fullbacks, and up front we cant compare. They have many players who can win games And they play better as a team, and have a much deeper squad.
That said, we are not far off, and we have a better 1st eleven. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I've been thinking about this one, and I've decided the above is undoubtedly the correct answer to this specific question.
So on that basis I vote yes too.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

We have the best striker in the world with Steven Gerrard playing off him. Yes we don't have much in depth but the Mancs have a £32m flop in Berbatov (booed by his own fans yesterday) and Tevez, who the majority of Mancs do not want to sign permanently. Tevez has scored 3 league goals this season. Three.
That leaves Rooney, who's a good player but as we all know wildly overrated and not prolific. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The response was directly to a claim that they were stronger "in attacking positions". 5 goals fewer does not, I repeat, demonstrate that they are stronger in attacking positions, quite the opposite. That we have scored more goals than them while our main striker has missed nearly half the league season would tend to show that we are stronger in attacking positionsOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostWell they're a point ahead, with a game in hand - so that's a stronger argument than '5 more goals'.

It doesn't really show that. It shows we have a better goal difference than them.Originally posted by Redspin View PostThe response was directly to a claim that they were stronger "in attacking positions". 5 goals fewer does not, I repeat, demonstrate that they are stronger in attacking positions, quite the opposite. There could be any number of reasons for that and although your suggestion is less fanciful than most there is no way of knowing whether their squad would have been even better with Rafa's tactical input or Alonso's passing or whatever. In short I don't think you can discount Craig's argument just like he can't discount yours..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Well said. Rooney - hailed as the new Maradona when he came onto the scene - has managed to score just one more league goal this season than our oft-criticised (by the mentally feeble fan element) RM, Dirk Kuyt.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostUp front we can't compare?

I said no because at this moment in time I think the scum have a better squad than we do.
11 vs 11 I'd fancy us against any team in the world as long as all our lads were fit.
We are getting there, each season we are starting to turn the screw and get better and better and Rafa is good enough to take Fergie on and win.
We need to add one or 2 more first team quality players now each summer and I honestly believe we will knock those ****ers off their perch and restore order.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

If you look again I think you'll find that we have actually scored more league goals than them (59 to 54) as well as having a better goal difference (38 to 33).Originally posted by Neil Young View PostIt doesn't really show that. It shows we have a better goal difference than them.

There is also a huge disparity in their goal scoring record depending on playing home or away. They have only scored 20 goals in 16 away games. If you take away the 5 they got at WBA (no big deal as the league's whipping boys have conceded 63 goals this season) they have only scored 15 goals in their other 15 away games.
I find it very easy to discount Craig's argument

That doesn't make it right. It's just one interpretation of the available facts.
And now you've started fixing the stats to make your interpretation appear more persuasive.
