i would say that claiming to be better than a side top of the league in the cl semis - fa cup semi finalists world club winners and cc winners already this season is a bit confusing tbf

or on what basis could it rightfully be claimed

when you put it like that it is pretty hard to think we are better than them.

Only we know its because they are jammy *******s and we are miles better.

      Isnt it.

No basis really, I don't think it's true. I thought you were suggesting that Rafa's statements were intrinsically self contradictory

Saying we're the better side when they're ahead of us and on course to win the title, comes across as a bit delusional, IMO. Almost Houllier-esque, in a way.

Better to have said that we're closing the gap and they're worried about us overtaking them. To say outright, 'we are better' is nonsensical because every piece of tangible evidence refutes it.

It's not if he's talking about form.

Honestly, Craig, you could give people a bit more credit sometimes.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

There's nothing to categorically point his comments into the 'about form' category, is there?

He could easily have mentioned form, if that's what he meant.

He's already denied making those comments mate.

Rafael Benitez had denied reports claiming he thinks Liverpool are better than Manchester United.

Benitez was quoted on Friday insisting the Reds were a better team than United and he was the only one willing to stand up to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Those comments sparked a reaction from United boss Ferguson in his press conference, but Benitez has since refuted such reports.

"It is not true," Benitez told Sky Sports News. "I did not say this.

"It was a normal conversation with a good journalist and then has been twisted a little bit.

                    Driving seat
Benitez, whose side travel to Hull on Saturday without injured captain Steven Gerrard, did offer his view on the state of play in the Premier League which sees the Merseyside outfit trailing the Red Devils by three points having played a game more.

The Spaniard said: "I think United are in the driving seat - that is clear. It depends on them so we have to keep going, keep doing our job, try to win, score four goals don't concede - things like this and see what happens."

Benitez, whose side dropped points in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal in midweek, believes the Gunners can lend a helping hand to the Reds in their title quest.

He added: "I think they will have difficult games and they have to play a lot of games so we have to keep the confidence, the belief that we can do it."

He could have done but he didn't. Maybe he wasn't referring to form or maybe he simply didn't express himself perfectly.

The latter can happen to most of us in real life, you know. You could at least allow for the possibility, especially if you respect them.

Ah, I was about to edit my post when I thought the third possibility is he could have been misquoted but no need.
