Anfield to Lime Street via cab

How long is it likely to take to get to Lime Street via cab after a match, given all the traffic and chaos surrounding the ground? Would it be realistic to catch a 5:48pm train on a Saturday after a 3pm kickoff, or would that be asking too much? I know Lime Street is only a couple of miles from Anfield, but if you get out the ground by 5pm, by the time you've got a cab and got through the traffic, 5:48pm might not be a realistic prospect.

Also, would it be best to pre-arrange with the cabbie to meet me somewhere by the ground after the game, or is there somewhere i could just get a cab from afterwards, without pre-booking it?

My advice is to pre-book and arrange a place away from the ground, somewhere you could walk to, the cabbie should be able to recommend something for you. I would say time would be tight but it's definitely do-able, you could walk there in an hour.
I like to lurk, if that's ok with you

Cheers for that. I was thinking i'd get him to meet me outside the Arkles

I need to be sure though, because the train ticket would be non-transferrable and if i didnt make it to Lime Street in time, i'd be ****ed. Alternatively, i could just book for the next train but that'd be 6:48pm and means i'd have to piss about for an hour or so. Not ideal, but will do that if necessary.

You could walk it in that time. I've walked it in 40 mins or so before.

I'd doubt very much you'd be successful with the cab. I tried once before and the time we wasted in trying to find one (couldn't get a cabbie to agree to pick us up after) we could've walked it.

Piss about for an hour is the answer, take your time, breathe in the fresh scouse air and have a beer, then casually call a cab and make your way to the station, to enjoy the journey home reliving in your thoughts the great win you have undoubtedly just witnessed, no hassle or rushing here and there.

edit. although you may need to take a later train home should you choose this option.

It's not a novelty visit, so the pissing about option isnt my first choice.

There's loads of black cabs around Anfield, from what i've seen before. Admittedly, i couldnt say for sure whether this was before or after kickoff. Hmmm. I'm more confused now than i was before.

That's all this talk of rushing to catch trains.

Start walking and flag a black cab on Scotty Rd.

I'd start walking the other way TBH. Along Oakfield Rd and either up Breck Road or straight along Belmont. Taxis do tend to avoid the area for a bit after games so you probably won't get one until Rocky Lane. Defo doable though.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

There will be less traffic along Scotty.
Get dropped off on County Rd and cut through.

Just don't talk to the locals.

It'd be useful if roads were referred to by their actual names
