Espanyol trained at their brand new Estadi Cornella-El Prat stadium today in preparation for Sunday's pre-season friendly clash with Liverpool.

The 'Periquitos' squad braved the blistering sunshine as they were put through their paces in front of the assembled media.

Liverpool will help open the new stadium by becoming the first ever visitors to the 40,000 all-seater complex on what is likely to be an evening of joyous celebration in Barcelona.

However, Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino is keen for his players to retain their focus as they get ready for the start of the La Liga season on August 30.

"It is another match of preparation," he said. "It is clear we will take the match very seriously.

"Although we have to take the events surrounding the game into account, we will try our utmost. We will come out with the intention of making it a big match and trying to win.

"Liverpool started pre-season training 15 days before us, but that is not an excuse.

"We will attempt to put all of what we are trying to develop into practice and will try to win the match."
