I think he's a great player, the kind of person who i believe could have gone on to be a great and held down his position for years to come

No. He's not developed a great deal and wasn't really good enough when he left. Looking back it was slightly surprising that Rafa kept Riise rather than him as he now looks more keen on that type of attack from deep. That said he is and always was a player whose positional sense was often off and who over commited."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

he only got great by making mistakes at other clubs, mistakes he would have got crucfied for here......
no doubt he is a cracking player now, but how could we let him develop when the stakes are so high?
very big dilemna for the top clubs_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

Feels like its us more than others who do that though, i mean im no huge patron on any Manc websites but i dont notice the Da Silva brothers getting massively slated if they make mistakes...Originally posted by red g View Posthe only got great by making mistakes at other clubs, mistakes he would have got crucfied for here......

I do doubt he is a cracking player now to be honest. He is decent but he gets away with a lot at Villa as when other teams attack they double up in the fullback positions and rely on their pace to counter. They set up their team ideally for him - aiming to allow him to fly in to cover tackles and get forward when they attack. I don't think his positional sense is good enough for a team looking to challenge for the league.Originally posted by red g View Posthe only got great by making mistakes at other clubs, mistakes he would have got crucfied for here......

At the time I was sorry - we didn't really have genuine full backs and I still think to some extent a better defensive coach in his formative years would have made him a better player (to some degree the same seems true about Warnock although his injuries didn't help). Warnock is a much more talented player though (hence why he did make it at PL level).Originally posted by Shaggy View Post
You mean the Coventry full-back?!
Aye, huge disappointment.

I think the reason our defensive record is so poor is that we're blooding new players and it hurts initially. If you look at the Manc's/Chav's there has been very little change to their defense over the years, if they buy a new player they are introduced very slowly, I mean we've been unlucky with Agger's injury but surely we could have hired someone smart enough to see that it wasnt a problem that was going to go away.."These stories have as much relation to the truth as an egg to a chestnut." - Racing Santander President Francisco Pernia

No Warnock was a decent player, but when he left he wasn't good enough, since then he's had a few years playing Premiership football and has improved from where he was when he left. He's still not good enough IMO and we couldn't have kept hold of him because he wanted to play first team football somewhere, something we couldn't have offered himThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
