Regardless of the rights and wrongs, we entered into a contract with him. If we want to terminate the contract and disadvantage him then he's got every right to ask for some form of compensation.
Would you expect him to say ok LFC you're a nice club I will forego the income we've agreed you'll pay me because I know you no longer want me?
Mate I know that but 2.5 mil? get real! Why should he get a golden handshake and be able to get paid by another Club? Give him 500K to 1 mil or so and off you go IMO.
He doesn't strike me as someone who would sit on the bench and collect paycheques but it also wouldn't surprise me if he thinks healthy and game fit he could make it back into the rotation.
The key is for Kenny to tell him that he is not part of his plans (cannot see how he could be) right away so he and us can start looking for a new club and break this "match made in heaven" as quickly and as civil as possible.
We entered into a contract yes, but it was on the proviso that he was actually good
In seriousness, of course he's entitled to the contract or compensation but he's hardly hard up and let's be honest, some players have more pride than to sit on their arse taking money. Doesnt he want to play football FFS?

Jova wants 2.5 mil to leave us. Let him rot in the reserves I say

BelgoFoot John Chapman
by SiClancy More good news for Anderlcht fans, Van Holsbeeck wants to bring Milan Jovanovic to Brussels (to be fair he has big reputation here). #lfc

I think the problem when it comes down to Jovanovic is the same as the Cisse signing.
Jovanovic could have been a success in a Rafa system, no one knows that. We could say the same about Cisse. He could have been a success in a Houllier system.
Both deals should have been scrapped as soon as we changed manager.
I don't doubt that he would have been better in Rafa's system how much of a success is difficult to say. We can say almost certainly he couldn't have been any worse.

Personally I dont think Cisse would have been a success in a Houllier system nor would Jova be a success in a Rafa system
Who knows. He would have much better IMO in a 4-2-3-1 on the left side behind the striker.
Yeah, he's been ****ing terrible no doubt but you're right. He's better than he's shown, but he was hamstrung from the off by being asked to play orthodox left midfield under the Brontohodge

Yeah, I think that's likely.
I agree in principle about not going through with a transfer when there's a change of manager but I wonder if in practice it's just not really the done thing. We hear all the time about 'done deals' and perhaps it would do the club's reputation (and therefore pulling power for targets) no good at all if we pulled out of a deal at the last moment and left a player in the lurch.
Also perhaps the incoming managers were happy with the signings. For instance wasn't Benitez supposed to have tried to sign Cisse when he was at Valencia?
