Well we a know lucas has been playing better of late but is still a long way from ever being class central midfielder.

So with the inminent signing of Maxi who will play on the right would it be a bad idea to train Kuyt to play the Lucas role

Kuyt is better at going forward,shooting,heading and is a quicker

Where as lucas is better in a tackle

Lucas could then be sold in the summer or as a part exchange plus cash for Benfica Angel di maria.

That would leave us with Mash,Aqui,Gerrard and Kuyt in the middle.

I am sure he would adapt quickly and with a summer training on his tackling he would become a scholes like midfielder. not the best in a tackle but very effective.

Plus Maxi and Benayoun fighting it out on the right.

Daft idea IMO - whats the point of buying Aquilani if we are going to play Kuyt in his position?

Lucas may not be a world class player but he certainly offers very good back up to our first choice midfield pairing of Aquilani and Mascherano.

In all seriousness I see what you're getting at but if Lucas isn't up to the job (whether he is or not is irrelevant) I'd prefer to buy someone else rather than train an almost-30 year old in a new position.

Has Kuyt played on the let for us at all? (apart from the odd mid game tactical change from Rafa) I wonder if he'd be any better cutting in from the left and taking on a shot, his crossing is pretty decent from the right but i wonder if he'd be more of a goal threat from the left?

Thats just daft.

Lucas is a decent defensive midfielder. We have him and Mascherano available to play that role. We have Aqualani and Gerrard available to ideally play along side one of them. Thats enough for CM.

Kuyt can partner Torres upfront if Maxi is in the team. Although I guess Rafa will probably stick with 1 upfront

Man alive people will go far to try and think Lucas out of the team. I find it genuinely baffling. It's not that I don't understand people not rating a player I do but it is the shear desperation to push him as far down the pecking order as possible - we have genuine alternatives for CM spots in Aquilani, Mascherano and Gerrard without having to convert every one else in the squad into a CM, we lack width enough as it is.
