Man alive people will go far to try and think Lucas out of the team. I find it genuinely baffling. It's not that I don't understand people not rating a player I do but it is the shear desperation to push him as far down the pecking order as possible - we have genuine alternatives for CM spots in Aquilani, Mascherano and Gerrard without having to convert every one else in the squad into a CM, we lack width enough as it is.

I could understand if we had an injury crisis in certain areas but centre midfield is probably the area where we are covered best

Terrible post. Lucas has been one of the few bright spots in what has been troublesome start to the season.

I think we may see Kuyt partnering Torres more often. With some of the players we have been linked with it appears to me that Rafa is looking for a target man who can hold the ball up and absorb some of the buffeting that has been dished out to Torres. Unfortunately, due to our apparently dire financials constraints we cannot afford to purchase anyone of the required quality. Kuyt is adept in the air and his selfless running means he can play this role and can now be played in the centre as hopefully we finally have an alternative on the right.

Lucas has been decent this season, our best player at times. That's not saying much given how we've been playing, but still.

If Maxi's arrival is going to change anything I'd rather it meant Kuyt playing more upfront than on the wing. I'm sick of seeing his leaden touch killing all our attacks down the right.
