    Salif Diao

It is reported on another site that Diao is having a week's trial with Charlton.

Can anyone confirm this, and were Charlton interested in Traore at one point?

Sits back and waits for the usual diatribe about the poor quality of these two

Diao is joining for a week's trial according to several websites (and his agent).
Charlton are also one of the club's interested in Traore.

If they sign both it will prove that a degree in aueronautical engineering and a gift for a pithy phrase does not a good manager make.

If he gets Diao to play something that resembles football then he will be the best manager in the world.

FLMAO I wonder what the odds are on Charlton signing both of them?

Skysports.com can reveal Salif Diao has linked up with Charlton for a trial.

Diao is open to offers as he looks set to leave Liverpool this summer.

The Senegal international is well down the pecking order at Anfield and Liverpool have indicated they are willing to part company with the tough-tackling midfielder.

Diao spent the second half of last season on loan at Portsmouth, but injury blighted his stay at Fratton Park.

Charlton are now pondering offering the former Sedan man a move to The Valley by inviting him to training for a week.

Addicks boss Iain Dowie is keen to bolster his squad and he will have a look at Diao in training before deciding whether or not to pursue his interest in the midfielder.

The player's agent Charles Collymore confirmed Diao had joined up with Charlton so that both parties can have a look at each other.

"Salif is spending the week with Charlton and he will train with them," Collymore told skysports.com.

"He is going down there so that he can have a look at the club and so that Iain Dowie can cast an eye over Salif.

"He is set to travel with the squad for their pre-season games with Hibernian and Valencia this week and we will take things from there."

If Diao impresses during his week at Charlton he could win a permanent move to The Valley.

What sort of fee do you think he will fetch. I would guess it will be undisclosed and minimal, ut it's still wages off the budget.

Salif is capable of impressing during a trial.
He's the identikit "modern midfielder": big, strong, powerful, and black.

If he can go through the games without decapitating anyone with one of his "tackles" and limits his passing to about three yards, he may just crack it.

Surely Dowie must have seen tapes of some of the games he played and recognise that it's a hell of a risk.

Well, he must have seen tapes of Djimi, too.

But Djimi has had some good games and performs some great last ditch tackles. You could certainly make a good highlights reel. And he has a CL medal.

                      Diao has ......

I can never understand why people slate Diao. Bandwaggons come to mind. He was never as bad as people make out.
                        Diouf on the other hand...
                        Traore...

Diao has the ability and the physical presence...he will be a hit at Charlton.
Play the Man of the Match game in the sticky thread!

I can only surmise that you didn't watch him play.

Didn't catch some of his x-rated and hilariously mistimed tackling
Happened to miss his laughable attempts at passing to his own players that are more than 5 yards away.
Turned a blind eye to his UTTERLY brainless decision-making.

Diao was a ****ing CAR-CRASH for Liverpool.

To be honest I liked him initially but he very quickly seemed to loose the plot. I think he lost confidence in his own ability and his passing went to pieces. He has since suffered from a series of niggling injuries and even when fit failed to get into a struggling Portsmouth side (it is fair enough to say at the end of the season they has a settled and successful side but he didn't get games at any point of the season).

We've still got a fair amount of dead wood to shift.

Mellor, Le Tallec, Diao, Potter, Traore, Dudek and co......

Hopefully they'll all be gone by Aug 31st.
