Nonsense. If Gerrard or Torres are fit, they play. They are match winners and our best two players. Winning one game at home without them doesn't change that.

I'd give him minutes from the bench first like we do with most other players.
It's a good point. If Aquilani wasn't starting because he'd only just come back from injury then where is the logic in starting Gerrard or Torres if they are not fully fit?

I wouldn't start either if they're not fit. I can't subscribe to the logic that a half fit Gerrard is better than a fit (whoever) player.
        Really?

Gerrard has a had a few injuries this year and we've brought him bach asap from all or them only for him to get injured again within a few games, I think we should nurse him back slowly and not risk injuring him again.

            Agree totally.

But "IF" is the main word here, there is absolutely no point in even considering them if they are not fully fit.

The lads showed against Spurs (a potential top 4 team), that they are capable of mixing it with the best without TORRARD, so if they can play with the same intensity at Wolves, i would be confident of another 3 points.

It depends on what you mean by fit though surely. We have seen that when not fully fit this season Gerrard has been a shadow of himself and not been a match winner. As such if he isn't fully fit we should not play him until he is. We always rush him and Torres back and it always bites us in the arse.

Seemed obvious to me that he meant fully fit. That's how i read it anyway.

He was responding to a comment that our best performances have come this season when Gerrard hasn't played. My contention would be that he hasn't been fully fit all season and if he is to come back in a similar state then I would rest him (well put him on the bench at least). I was assuming that vonk was backing the earlier decisions to play him whenever possible. I think that overall we would have benefited from leaving him out on occasion.

I certainly wouldnt start him if he wasnt properly fit. But going on the assumption that he was fully fit, he has to start every game IMO. Torres too.

If we can't beat Wolves without Gerrard then lets all pack up and go home.
Have him start on the bench and bring him on if needs be rather than rush him back from yet another injury.
We deservedly beat Spurs at home without him, Aquilani had his best game for us so far (imo) christ even Dirk scored a couple so let them go again in the same positions.
I'd personally move Degan to RB and Carra to CB and start Maxi RM but that would be my only change
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

to be honest, i dont think i would play degen and insua in the same back 4 - we have looked very solid defensively with carra right back in the last 2 league games.....

i would agree with the sentiment that if stevie G isn't 100% fit then he shouldnt start. To be honest though, i think if he isnt fot to start, then i dont think he should be on the bench either.

I think the reason we have played some of our best football without gerrard in the team is because our captain hasnt been 100% fit but also there seems to be a burden on some of the players when stevie is in the team. Every player seems to want to pass it to SG as soon as they get the ball - whereas there might be a better ball to another player. Players like Dirk, Mascher, Carra and Agger all seem to take more leadership and responsibility when gerrard isnt on the pitch. Lucas looks a much much better player when our captain isnt there - it's like he can play his natural game a bit more without the burden of having gerrard in front of him. That said - when he is 100% fit, then we are obviously a much better team than without him.....

Getting back to the wolves match, i would like to see a team of:

                              ------------------------REINA-----------------------

                              CARRA-----SKRTEL-------------KYRIAKOS-----AGGER

                              ----------LUCAS--------------MASCHERANO----------

                              DEGEN------------AQUILANI------------------RIERA

                              -------------------KUYT-----------------------------

With Aurelio instead of agger if he isnt fit.....

My point is that to suggest we rest them is ludicrous in our position. There are those who are suggesting that because we won one match against Spurs that suddenly we can afford to "rest" them.

Of course when I say "fit" I mean fully fit. Gerrard has been training since Saturday so I see no reason to think he is not fit. And if he's fit enough to be in the squad he's fit enough to play.

I'm as happy as everyone that we beat Spurs. I was dancing around my living room, but it doesn't mean everything is rosy in the garden all of a sudden. We are still trailing Citeh and Spurs in the race for fourth remember.
