The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

yes and I'm happy about it. injured far too often. the squad needs new blood to freshen it up and his place is one where we can do exactly that.

As BobZeCharmer has said, he is out of contract and far too injured. He's been offererd a pay as you play contract but he/his agent rejected it. Given his injury record there's no real point in keeping him and this year when he has played, he's not played to the level of last season.

I think he adds so much balance to the team. He no world beater, he frustrates with the best of them. But last season in the games we played well he was often involved.

Be good to see him whack one in from 25+ yards again.

His corners looked decent against Bolton too. I think its important to have some natuarally left footers in the team.

My only fear is he will be rotated with Benni, Maxi & Babel or even Auerlio.

He's missed so much of the season, be good to see him given a real run in the team.
Was thinking the same thing over the past few weeks. He gives us natural width by hugging the touchline, can beat a player, has a good cross, good shot, strong in the air. By far our best choice for LM and should start even when Benny comes back.

It's just a shame that we're going to get nothing for him, an are probably going to have to find money for his replacement, and given our current financial position...

Yes definitely, but I suppose we didn't pay a fee to sign him. If he wasn't so injury prone, how much do you think he would be worth? I reckon around/above £10m maybe? Actually given his age, it would probably be less than that.

I think it's best we he goes anyway for our sake. He can't offer us anything if he's injured.

I would have thought if he had a couple of years or more on his contract we could probably have been looking at £4-5m type region even given his injury problems.

Not a huge sum but the position we're in (and without sounding like tesco ) every little helps

                  Riera reveals Rafa support
Reds winger hails compatriots as history boys

Benitez made Riera his most recent signing from his homeland, joining the likes of goalkeeper Pepe Reina and star striker Fernando Torres on Merseyside in the summer of 2008.

And despite the club's problems this season, the former Espanyol winger is adamant he and his compatriots are committed to leading the club back to former glories.

Benitez led Liverpool to their fifth European title in 2005 but all they have won since is the 2006 FA Cup.

The Reds soon fell out of Premier League title contention this season and have since suffered early exits in the Champions League, the FA Cup and Carling Cup.

They are now battling it out to finish fourth and ensure they qualify for next season's Champions League, and Riera is confident Liverpool's Spanish players will stay put regardless of where they finish.

                  Character

"It isn't in the character of any of us to turn our backs and run somewhere else when times are tough," said Riera.

"All of us would like to look back on our Liverpool career and say it was a success.

"It is clear how happy Pepe and Fernando are at the club and I have no doubt they will both be here for a very long time no matter what happens.

"They have both said to me that they want to make history with Liverpool and I share that ambition.

"For me, if the club offered a five, six or seven-year contract right now, I'd sign it with my eyes closed. Where else is there to go?

"Being anywhere else would be a step down. I have everything I need in Liverpool."

                  I like Albert.
