Has he even got anyone in particular in mind or is he just talking **** as usual? Same goes for anyone coming out with this tedious "WE NEED A BWITISH MANAGER" mantra.

Lets look at the British managers we'd be picking from.

McLaren -
Ferguson -
Hughes - Yeah right
O'Neill -
Hodgson - Nice man, OAP, team finished below Stoke last season and he does not win away from home
Holloway -
Curbishley - whatever
Redknapp - Don't have quite as much vitriol for him as many but he works for The S*n FFS. Speaks highly of us and Spurs play exciting football. Never gonna happen though, and maybe we should be relieved. We'd be in liquidation in no time.
Venables -
Chris Coleman - shouldn't even have typed his name
Allardyce - what a cunt
Paul Hart - er?
Chris Hughton - OK then
Moyes -
McLeish - based on what?
Pulis - what a cunt!
Bruce -
Sammy Lee - er......
Coyle - He has potential, not for us though of course
McCarthy - Yorkshire
Brian Laws - less credible option than Bernie Clifton

I would happily have Hodgson. He took over Inter Milan twice, in troubling times for them, he took over once when ther were in the relegation zone after 10 or so games and finished in a European place and got to the UEFA cup final. He managed Malmo, during this time he knocked Real Madrid and Celtic out of the Champioins League and was offered a life time contract by the club. He has done an excellent job at Fulham and is a no nonsense manager who would surely have the respect of the players and the fans.

are there any others like me who really cant figure out who you want as a manager?

i know i want us to finnish at least top 4. (we should be able to get roughly there i hope)
develp the youth.
keep most of our big stars or get money and buy quality with that money for a deeper squad.
would ideally like flowing football. I count rafa end of 08/09 season as flowing.

I don't really want to think about it since it's a f*cking nightmare but I suppose it would be good to start the process of "moving on."

4th is going to be difficult but it's a minimum requirement - not every season but most seasons and certainly next season, otherwise we'll slip into obscurity.

To do that and everything else you (and I) want, we need an excellent manager. I can't see any of the candidates mentioned as being that. If we don't get an excellent manager I can't see how we're going to keep our best players or get in replacements of comparable quality. So...

Aurelius: too stoical we need emotion on the bench or we'll never get anywhere. Also if he come on an interim basis you have to worry about the succession - you know what happened last time.

Napoleon: Would he be keen on coming to England after the whole imprisonment/poisoning thing?

I can't think of a manager I would be happy with. Even if I didn't think Benitez was the best man for the job, all the others at his level would not touch LFC right now with a bargepole. From the list of contenders, Hiddink is the only one who is anywhere close to Rafa's level and he's ruled himself out.

So whoever we get will be a step down or three. Look who's left:

• A vain, ageing Swedish lothario with the tactical nous of a squashed pea.
• An ex-stalwart of both Manchester United and Chelsea who has zero experience of managing a title-chasing and CL-contending club and who failed at his previous job despite spending £700billion (people can call that childish of me if they like but then I really don't give a f*ck).
• An old chap who seems a nice bloke and who had an excellent season by getting to mid-table and losing the UEFA Cup but failed to get his side to win matches away from home.
• A legendary former player and manager who hasn't managed a club for a decade.
• A buffoon with an abysmal record in European competition and who gets his team to play mind-numbingly boring football and who seems to have confused tactical astuteness with being a jack-in-the-box on the touchline.

Like I said, it's a f*cking nightmare.

I'm finding it hard to think of who would be good for us, I'm still sulking that we ditched Rafa who, as others have pointed out, is so **** he will soon be managing the current Italian and Champions League winners. Christ.

Capello would be great, but very much doubt he'd come for various reasons.

Who said Del Bosque? I think that's a great shout, the Spanish influence is strong and we could do without having to rebuild the squad in a couple of seasons.

'Arry brings some pluses but I can't help wanting to punch his stupid twitchy face.

Sven - also brings some plusses but he'd be too busy slipping it to the WAGs to pay attention to the football.

British - Apart from Kenny, I can't think of anyone with enough gravitas.

As for Ian St. John, when he stops spouting xenophobic nonsense, I will begin to listen. Someone isn't **** because they are foreign, John, they are **** because they are ****. Anymore than someone is great because they are British. Sick of hearing this ****, from supposed "legends".

Well said, so am I. Attaining legend status as a player does not give them carte blanche to spout endless streams of ill-informed, misguided drivel. I'm looking at you Phil Neal, Graeme Souness, Ronnie Whelan, Ian St.John, Steve McMahon (although he's gone quiet since his brother got the reserve team boss gig ), Ray Houghton and, sadly, several more.

You should get used to the fact that we will never get a manager as good as Rafa.

tbh there is not one manager out there, that is likely to come that makes me think, hmm ok, good choice. I just dont see a way forward - any manager coming in is doomed under the current owners, he will be the manager in charge that ends up 'selling gerrard/torres/mascherano' and stumbling into 6th/7th/8th over the next couple of seasons.
