What Arsenal players are better than ours? Fabregas and Arshavin maybe?Originally posted by Lecter View PostNo way have we as good a team as either United or Arsenal player for player
united have three outstanding players Rooney, Vidic and Evra. The rest are average. Don't tell me you did not think they would be poorer than last season when Ronaldo and Tevez left. The other players like Fletcher and Carrick have stepped it up.
On paper I believe we have better players, it's just that they all look worse than the ordinary players at both those other clubs because they are playing like strangers and underperforming. The players at Arsenal and united step up when they are missing their better players. Ours don't. When have you ever seen Kuyt or Lucas step up when Torres and Gerrard are missing?
I was willing to put the bad spell at the start of the season down to a blip in form. For me it was a good test of Rafa's ability to react and turn around a bad run, a crisis of confidence. 5 months later he has not been able to do it. And rather than dropping players, changing tactics, something, anything, he has instead made a ridiculous promise of a 4th place finish to the press. What was that supposed to achieve? His inability to turn this around is a damning indictment, for me, that his time at Liverpool is up.
Arsenal lost 3-0 at home to both Chelsea and united and look how they have reacted. I think they can win it, and they would do it without even a decent striker!! It's a testament to Wengers ability to instill confidence back into his team after a setback. Something Rafa has patently failed to demonstrate.

potential negotiated agreement for craig and lecter
rafa has done a wonderful job withstanding the pressure of a ****ed up situation at board and ownership level. he has brought in a lot of the players he wanted and shipped out those he didn't, sometimes controversially (eg robbie keane) but despite these general (as in army) type abilities to manage a club through a bizarre storm, his faults and shortcomings as a football coach on the pitch trying to win the premiership keep coming back to haunt him - defensiveness, caution, sticking with functional players who create nothing, overanalysis of crap teams that lead to a sterile draws and losses in matches that top clubs win.
to summarise
brilliant tactical manager, incredible resilience, brave, tenacious, stubborn, committed but will never set out a team to win the premiershipFelching ≠ Gerbilling

Judging by how close we came last season that is a very unfair statement IMO.Originally posted by badpiggy View Postpotential negotiated agreement for craig and lecter

I agree with the rest though.

Ive been thinking about this for the last few days.
Mourinho is my favoured choice, for obvious reasons. He's the best there is. But its unlikely to happen given our financial position.
Then i started thinking about O'Neil. He's not popular with most of you, i think largely because he is enthusiastic about his teams shows emotion, and because he refused to roll over when we tried to sign their captain. For some reason Liverpool fans find these traits offensive and call him a cunt, when really they are traits i would love to see in a manager.
He gets his teams playing football, with proper wingers, speed, and his teams fight tooth and nail for each other. And this is at Villa!! Imagine what he could do with our current crop of players. He seems a fantastic man manager, the players respect him and give their all, he's someone that really gets that extra effort from his players.
Anyway thats just what ive been thinking the last day or so. MON isn't the popular choice, but he's better than bloody Hodgson FFS. Uncle Woy is just a nice guy, thats why you all like him. He flys under the radar, you don't notice him at all. But im sick of those types of managers at Liverpool. I want someone that gets fired up, gets under people skin. So yeah the more i think about our situation, the more i hope we go for O'Neil."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah
"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey

I think we can all agree that we are not in the position that we want to be in, whether you think that it is the fault of the owners, the manager, the players or all of the above, we all want what's best for the club.
Now a couple of points I'd like to make, not to disregard any other points made but these have not really been discussed yet.
Loyalty - Rafa has shown a fair bit to the club over the years and I feel he is due some back. If the next season is as poor as this by say november then it is adios.
Judgement - Unfortunately we don't pick the new manager the owners do and they wanted Klinsmann. If Rafa goes do you really trust them to know enough to hire the right person.
And lastly as has been discussed who would be the replacement (ignoring my last point for a moment) there seems to be six types of manager under consideration-
The ones with a link to the club
Nicol
Jewell
Clough
Gary Mac
Kenny
etc
The ones with mild success in England
Curbishley
O'Neill
Woy
Sven
O'Leary
etc
The ones with something to prove in England
Ramos
Gullit
Jol
Gross
etc
The young and relatively inexperienced
Bilic
Martinez
Diego Simeone
Zola
etc
The untried in England
Magath
Blanc
Del Bosque
etc
The big names
Guardiola
Mourinho
Fabio
etc
Now I can't see any of the big name types signing up for it, especially if there is no champions league which could rule out the likes of Blanc and Magath too as they should have their current teams in it next season.
Of the others I can't really see anyone that I would want to take over jumping through hoops to get the job.
And therein lies the problem how do you change from a (for arguments sake) 8/10 manager for a 8 9 or 10/10 one when you can only offer a 5/10 workplace? And I don't mean the city or club but the two running the place and the financial problemsYou learn nothing reading signatures.
