I think you may have missed his primary point.

I may not have made myself clear, but it was just showing the ambivalence in the arguments, where not Rafa is compared to two other good managers on the trophies won and deemed unfair due to age, but being selective in the fact that mourinho is younger and not taken it in to account.

But at some level you need to select some variables to compare with, and thus not selecting some other variables.

It would be impossible to have any discussion on managers if not selecting something they can be "meassured" upon.

You can't analyse things in isolation like that, it's ridiculous. Mourihno has had much more financial backing to build his sides than Rafa has ever had. Then, he won a lot of titles in the inferior Portuguese league, won a very mediocre CL final. Plus it's well documented that he isn't really a coach who favours an expensive game of football, preferring a more methodical and controlled approach much similar to the way Rafa sets up his teams.

Rafa has had to fight off competition from Real and Barca who had more resources and still beat them twice. So, it all puts everything into perspective.

then why did you start bringing in the comparison of titles between Van Gaal, Hiddink and Rafa if not to show in isolation that Rafa was more succesful than those? At least be consistent in your use before commenting on others mate.

and btw. even if you take away the portugese league titles/cups he has still one more than Rafa so far - inb4 money.

and I agree that neither of them are managers playing attractive football in that sense van gaal or hiddink would be a much better choice!

It wasn't me who started this argument. I merely stated that there wasn't 100 managers better than Rafa, which the original poster suggested.

i never said hundreds BETTER than rafa.....merely that there were hundreds of managers out there and jose only choose those two because he ( and myself ) thought they were better managers than rafa.

Van Gaal have defo won more than Rafa, and is one of the most proven managers around.

why would jose recommend rafa? there are hundreds of managers out there and van gaal and hiddink are better managers than rafa so whay not recomend them over rafa. It has nothing to do with jose not thinking rafa any good or even thinking he is a threat.

Mourihno is NOT coming to Liverpool, he has already said today that he will stay with inter or goto Madrid.

well, you could also argue that the spanish league was much more competitive back then. that the gap in quality wasn't as glaring as it is today. now the two top teams are a million miles above the rest both in terms of quality on the pitch and financial power.

so maybe it is even more of an achievement to win such a truly competitive league? after all, la liga was uefa's top ranked league during that time...

Rafa lost 9 and 10 Games in a season when he won the league twice and second time only because real madrid lost last 5 games!!!

I made a similar point to this ages back - when rafa won La Liga, his side needed no more than about 78 points to win it.

PL needs about 90 points to win it.

Winning a 38 game league with 78 points doesnt mean you know how to win a 38 game league that requires 90 points to win it.

rafa has only won leagues when he lost 1 in 4 games and he did actually take over one of the best teams in spain too at the time in couple of years before sure they won quite a few cups. Certainly better placed than the team he took over at liverpool........
