A big name/big ego from Europe is most certainly not a requirment for success when it comes to managers. It's just the fashion. Everyone here seems to laugh at any option that isn't Jose etc etc. It's a bit silly.

I have no faith at all in O'Neill. I think Hodgson could do well but all the people who were unhappy with the style of football under Rafa might be surprised at the general approach that his teams take when watching it every week.

I think Grant is at least pragmatic enough to deal reasonably well with the awful board room situation. He's proven himself a more than decent manager in this league.

There is zero chance of a van Gaal or Hiddink style appointment - we couldn't pay for the wages plus compensation to their employers. Even if we could the lack of transfer funds would scupper the deal.

Pellegrini is free - I'd like him. Proved he can do well with a minimal budget - did well blending new players and big egos at Madrid despite constant whispers about his position.

Know nothing about Jorge Jesus but his Benfica team looked attractive.

I'd actually take MON at this moment in time.

Still in absolute shock about this. Not because it has happened as in a way I'm not surprised but just that it appears to have come from nowhere. We all knew that there were talks going on but I expected it to be Rafa walking rather than the apparent vote of no confidence.

Would be a good shout, achieved club record finish with 96 points last season (yeah, he did have a better team!). He's free at the moment, good style of football and has got that Spanish connection. hmmm.....

Which we couldn't afford (even if I was convinced one was available, which I'm not). We also can't really afford to have a massive change of philosophy of play as we don't have big transfer funds. The timing and manner of this are all wrong.

MON has reportedly been annoyed by the lack of funds at Villa, where expectations are much lower, why on Earth would he come to us at this time?

Better doesn't necessarily mean bigger name.

We could get McLeish or Grayson or Hodgson in and won't know if they're better until they've tried. Last season was ****, Rafa was not able to stop the rot. I think there's a decent chance that one of the above, or another realistic candidate, could get more from the squad than Rafa managed last year, or would have this year.
