Or is it all just wishful thinking, a dream maybe, because i have no faith whastsoever in Hodgson, and i feel as certain as i have ever been about anything in football that he will fail...miserably.

This IS liverpool we're talking about right, Hodgson! really! what a mess, the appointement alone will send a message out to the world that as abig club Liverpool is finished for the foreseeable...as long as we have such incompetant owners and board members in charge....Roy ****in Hodgson...i never thought i'd live to see the day when we'd sink so low. shake:
Classic piece of selective reasoning there my friend. So much rubbish, yet you base your certainty on Faith of lack thereof.

Yes this is Liverpool we're talking about. This is Liverpool in 2010, not Liverpool in 1972 or 1984. Yes, we're in it up to our receding hairlines but I fail to see how a doomleaden outlook can do anything to help the situation.

The club has already sunk lower than most of us could ever have imagined so are we to wallow in the gutter just to spite ourselves. The club is the fans and if we feel crap what is the club to become.

I suspect that most of us deep down are hoping that we can still challenge for top 4 if we can keep our key players. If we have any kind of budget and if do bring a couple of decent players we could easily be in the mix.

Having said that I am not so sure that Woy will last long if we have as good of a start as we had last year. With fans not being on his side from the get go and media's constant pressure unless he can deliver instant results I am not convinced he will be around to enjoy his post.

Perhaps board and cowboy cunts can settle for mediocrity but fans will not and that could ultimately be the end of Woy sooner than we know it.

I'm not expecting top 4. I'm thinking top half.

Not too excited about Roy. But given that he is going to be our manager, I will support him. But then it will be a forced effort. If the following article by Tony Evans is even 50% accurate, then I guess it is time to recalibrate our expectations.

Liverpool get Roy Hodgson – but they may lose Steven Gerrard

                Gary Jacob, Tony Evans

                Last updated June 29 2010 12:01AM

Roy Hodgson is expected to be in place as Liverpool manager on Thursday — and his first job will be to field formal offers for the club’s crown jewels, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.

Real Madrid have tabled a £20 million take-it-or-leave-it bid for the England captain, whom Liverpool value at £35 million.

Torres, the Spain striker, would cost in excess of £60 million, but Chelsea and Real are aware that Liverpool’s precarious financial situation allows the opportunity to acquire their players at knockdown prices. There were suggestions last night that the London club’s initial offer could be as low as £25 million.

Hodgson, 62, who took Fulham to the Europa League final last season, will be consulted over any decision to sell, but can expect to receive only a small proportion of any money raised.

Liverpool are expected to have to pay Fulham about £2 million in compensation for the services of Hodgson, who would also have been a candidate to become the next England manager should the Football Association decide to part company with Fabio Capello.

The Italian said yesterday that the FA wanted two weeks to think about his position, but by then Hodgson will be installed at Anfield.

Liverpool needed to act quickly because only Sammy Lee remains from Rafael Benítez’s coaching staff. Benítez left Anfield on June 3 by mutual agreement with a £6 million payoff.

Hodgson can expect a muted reception from the fans, especially since his appointment will raise questions about the future of Kenny Dalglish.

The former manager and club icon was charged by Christian Purslow, the managing director, with finding a successor to Benítez. After assessing the candidates, the Scot put himself forward for the job, despite a longstanding friendship with Hodgson.

Internal politics may be the least of Hodgson’s problems at Anfield, however. Despite Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the co-owners, putting Liverpool up for sale in April, there is no buyer on the horizon. The club owe £351 million in loans, mainly to Royal Bank of Scotland, which is irritated with the Americans’ inability to sell.

Martin Broughton was brought in as chairman to oversee the sale, but Hicks’s asking price of £600-£800 million has caused a number of potential investors to walk away.

massively under welmed by Woy taking over but if he's going to be the manager then we're just going to have to back him as we back all of the managers that have been lucky enough to be our manager.

That is one good think, Hodgson doesn't actually have a British approach.

Liverpool F.C. Interview with Roy Hodgeson for the vacant Managers Position

                      Attendees –
In Person - Christian Purslow and Martin Broughton
video linkup from an underground bunker in Texas – Tom Hicks
video linkup from George Gilletts bahama’s holiday residence – a….. monkey
                      and of course Roy himself

Purslow: Hi Roy thanks for coming to the interview please take a seat
<only seat available is a dildo chair>…Roy manages to just about get comfortable on it
<Tom Hicks smiles to himself – yep this is the guy>
Purslow – So Roy what can we tell you, there is a vacancy at the club and we need a manager asap so that we can get on with the job of making the club an er…..a…..success <cough>
                      Broughton <cough>
Roy – Well yes I am very interested in the position, very interested – will I have full control of transfers in and out of the club?
Purslow – Yes you will…well when I say yes I mean you will be able to buy some players within the budgetary constraints set by the board.
Roy – Whats the budget then?
Purslow – Roy..Roy…Roy, we don’t need to discuss transfer budgets straight away I would rather discuss the techniques you applied to get the best out of Fulham – you know you have done wonders with mediocre squads in the past – how would you get the best out of the players at the club?
Roy> well firstly I would need to know what sort of budget I have to enable me to complement the current squad
Purslow> look Roy, before we talk budgets, you need to think outside the box….that box being sound logic and common sense. You need to think about how you would manage this team without Mascharano.
                      Roy> sorry what
Purslow> You know – how you would manage the club without Torres
                      Roy>Sorry? I thought you said Mascher…
Purslow> and No Gerrard either…well he may be with us he may not but the way we treat everyone either way means he will have no confidence and therefore might as well not be here.
                      Roy> I…
Broughton> What we are saying Roy is that without Masc, Torres and Gerrard can you keep this squad in the Premiership and get to the quarter finals of the Europa league?
                      Roy>thinks
                      George Gilletts Monkey>eekeekeek
Tom Hicks>Roy this is an amazing challenge, this could be your last big opportunity to be a massive success, you will have the full backing of the board, investment is about to come into the club in the shape of £200m quid and we will give you all of it, also I am about to sell the club anyhow, your job will be safe and you will get another £200m in transfer budget, and you will be leading the team out at their new stadium
Roy> but these are all words
Tom Hicks> its all true Roy just sign here and all your dreams will come true – all the issues here are complete bollocks everything is fine – we have sold 10 million shirts already
Roy> I don’t know about this, can I have it in writing that I get this budget, do I get any money from the sales of the players

Hicks> My word is my bond Roy I don’t put things in writing – I can create a company to sign off to it though if you want? In terms of providing funds from the sales of the big 3 sorry old mucker we need that in the short term but once we have the investment the £200m is all yours
                      Roy>well…
Martin Broughton>Its all true Roy, we are for sale and we a have a buyer in the pipeline, you can believe Tom he is the man
Roy> I am not sure it seems your getting rid of the key players and setting me up for a fall to be honest, I could be associated with a bad period of LFC history
Purslow> Don’t worry about the fans if they turn on you I can manipulate the press and put injunctions on the fans everything will be like clockwork <winks at Tom on video cam>
Broughton> this is the start of something wonderful, everything will be fantastic you will be the figurehead for a prosperous future at the club
Purslow> You must have heard the true rumours we are being bought by rich arabs – it will be signed and sealed on the 15th July
Broughton> Do it, you know it makes sense
                      Roy>…ummm
Broughton> £6m contract whether you succeed or fail
George Gilletts Monkey> eek eeek eeek oh oh oh <points at banana>
Broughton> He says you can have his banana if you take the job
Roy>…**** it OK I will take it
Hicks> Fantastic Roy sign here old mucker see you next Thursday, don’t worry about the contract
Purslow> you wont regret this Roy – any chance you can look at the possibility of getting Duff, Gera, Shorey, Zamora and Murphs to join you as coaching staff?
                      Roy>ummmm
Purslow> Don’t worry just wondered is all see you next Thursday
Broughton>Oh and whatever you read in the press its not true…unless Christian here tells you it is
                      <Roy rises from Chair – squelch – leaves room>
                      Broughton>hahahaha
                      Purslow>hahahahah
Hicks>HOH HOH HOH HOOH (you try writing what Jabba the hutt sounds like)
                      George Gilletts Monkey> Haahaahaahaaeekeekeek

We're all kind of assuming that Hodgson himself has been blinded by a probable wage increase and the name "Liverpool" and that he is utterly oblivious to our cluster**** of an ownership situation.

Surely before Hodgson agrees to anything, he will have wanted assurances regarding funding and keeping big players? Surely he doesn't want to go down in LFC and English football lore as the patsy who guided us into terminal mediocrity at best or relegation etc at worst (battles against which will be part of mediocrity)? What sort of manager - especially of Hodgson's age and experience would blindly accept the likes of Torres especially being sold over his head?

I'm just trying to see the positives here (while feeling absolutely zero positivity). Hodgson is an experienced football man and can't be the total idiot that this criticsm implies about him.

And regarding his potential failure/success as a manager - like all appointments he's ultimately a punt. Granted, some seem more likely to succeed than others (mourinho, hiddinck). We have no real reason to think that him getting the best out of our current players won't result in a title challenge.

Again, my mate assures me that the club have absolutely no intention of selling either torres or gerrard. The owners might be money grabbing idiots but they are business savvy and know that bad performances on the pitch will adversely affect the value of the club off it.

Even if the players themselves push for transfers then ALL of the money received will be ploughed back into the team.

The owners realise that over the last 2 seasons they have effectively weakened the squad and that the first time they got away with it (when we finished 2nd) but they didnt last year. There was a degree of underperformance but generally a lack of investment and some bad purchases didnt help us.

I dont think we will see negative spend this year. Maybe not positive but not negative either unless hodgson doesnt think he needs anything else.
