Torres is special, he reminds me of Thierry Henry at his absolute best. I really rate Drogba and Rooney, but Torres has speed, quick feet, strength, guile and deftness that sets him apart from anyone in the Premiership. I love his determination to reclaim the ball when he loses it. Torres is the ultimate athlete in this game, he has the attributes to be the best striker in the world and he's still young enough to develop and improve. Just like Pepe Reina - I wouldn't swap Torres for anyone.

      Best Strikers in the Prem:

      1. Torres
      2. Drogba
      3. Rooney

Torres just has the lot. Drogba on top form can be unplayable and Rooney, i feel, is still suited best to the second striker role.

Pretty amazing considering he doesn't take the pens and plays up top by himself in a pretty defensive team.

How many games did Fowler take to reach 100 goals ? 150-odd games ?
If I remember correctly, Fowler scored 100 in 165 games, 1 game quicker than Rush.

At his current rate Torres is on to do it in about 162 games (if my maths isn't ****)

        Its pretty damn close

Yeah, that sounds about right, it's going to be close. It probably will come down to the last 6-8 games when he needs 5 goals or something.

If he reaches 100 faster than Rush and Fowler.....well.....

56 league goals in three seasons, two of which have been injury ravaged. That is amazing. He's likely to reach 60, averaging at least 20 league goals per season.

Just out of curiosity how many of Fowlers first 100 goals were penalties? And how many games did it take for him (or any of the others) to score 100 goals not including penalties as that would probably be a fairer way to judge.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

When I think of the best strikers I think of number 9 strikers. Now Torres and Drogba are clearly number 9 type strikers. Rooney hasn't been up to now but has been more like one this year. Messi is far more than a striker as is Ronaldo. Both of those play wide, come inside and score lots of goals. Rooney in previous years was more like this but a bit more centrally orientated.

For me Torres is the best there is as a number 9 type striker.

Overall I think Messi is the world's best player with Ronaldo next. However it hurts me to say but the Rooney fella is closing fast.

I don't know what it is in this country but we always look at the best players abroad as being at a different level or being some god like genius compared to what we have here, yet time and time again over the last few years we've done better in Europe than any other country.

Rooney is absolutely at the top of his game at the moment, Torres is peaking just when we need him and Drogba on his day can be the most influencial striker in the league.

I took the piss out of my manc mates last year when they sold Ronaldo and Fergie said Rooney would become the main focus for goals. Lets be fair, we all thought he'd get 10-15 goals and that would be it, but we have to admit, he's been ****ing superb.
Apart from the fact that his goals have been boosted by penalties, he tends to disappear against the top clubs in league matches and also in international football - three years without a goal for England until not so long ago.

Against us last week he never remotely looked like scoring and if he hadn't been given a free pot-shot at goal from 12 yards and got a lucky rebound he certainly wouldn't have scored.

Let's see Rooney scoring lots in the World Cup and in the league for two or three years before we start going stupid over him. One good season doesn't make him comparable with the likes of Torres, to name just one striker who really is world-class and has done it consistently against top clubs and at international level for a number of years

....and Fowler took plenty of penalties in his total, unlike Torres
