The importance of a natural left footer.
Someone who is able to take players on and whip in a decent cross.

Riera has not figured in first-team action since labelling Rafa Benitez's regime a 'sinking ship' in March but back-tracked weeks later, claiming he wanted to stay at what he regarded as 'one of the best clubs in the world', shortly after a proposed move to Spartak Moscow collapsed.

Now, having missed out on a place in Spain's World Cup 2010 squad, he has pointed the finger at the Reds board of directors for failing to intervene in his supposed conflict with the club's manager.

"I want to leave" he said.

"English clubs are run differently that Spanish clubs.

"In England you have a manager at the club, and the board of the club has done nothing for me.

"The club has not put up any fight for me.

"I do not want to quarrel with somebody, but if a club doesn't fight for you, that means that they don't want you.

"I do not want to be in a place where I am not wanted.

"I did not play the last two months [of the season] and right now my objective it is to go to a club were I can feel appreciated and where I can win trophies.

"I am not worried about the money now or the country I go to."

We can certainly fault the player for unprofessional behaviour and a range of other issues however it remains that Rafa has very poor management skills on the interpersonal level which also gets in the way of the teams performance. We have players frozen out of the team and end up in a situation in major games playing right sided players on the left totally out of position. Players are highly paid and sometimes opionated and even difficult to manage in the modern age but the modern manager needs to address that and be able to motivate players for the good of the team. Not one of Rafa's strong points unfortunately. :-(
I will always blame Moores and Parry.

Not sure this is true. He just isn't an arm around the shoulder kind of coach. The players who have been 'frozen out' were done so for good reason and probably would have copped the same at most other clubs.

cant believe the club did not back the player over the manager.

But it`s not only players, it staff as well. Every manger has his flaws and IMO this is one of Rafas.

shame it never worked for riera here. started off very well indeed and loved the countless back heel passes in his first game against manure.

turned out to be a bit of a dick i guess. shame.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Staff? Which staff? Paco? He and Rafa were quite close until they had a falling out because Paco was looking at another job behind Rafa's back, if i recall correctly.
