Man City getting into the champions league would be disastrous for us as they could then attract almost any player in the world their their unlimited wealth
If City had won it would only have made a marginal difference to the players they could sign. Even if they had got 4th place (in the qualifying round as opposed to the actual CL) they would still be the same not-very-big club with just about zero appeal to the world's top stars. As Torres said "the best players want to play for the biggest clubs. Manchester City are not one of those".

They would have been able to attract the same older B-listers like Bellamy and Adebayor that they signed this year, looking for a big pay day, rather than attract the top players, like Torres, Messi, etc.

These players are all multi-millionaires (so money's not an issue) with their best years ahead of them, so they wouldn't put their reputations on the line by going to such a small club on the off-chance that they could somehow put together a league or CL winning team

Riise was unfortunately the whipping boy and scapegoat that the feeble-minded on here can't live without. He got ridiculous criticism from the usual morons. The same morons now have Lucas as the scapegoat. If he moves on they'll just find another scapegoat. That's what morons do

As a gambling man I would say 200/1 is more realistic. They really haven't got a hope in hell

Even the subs he made were forward thinking - Attacker for an Attacker, RW for a RW, and CM for a CM.

In an away game like that, we would have played an ultra defensive 4-5-1 and would have probably ended up playind 6-4-0
At City we played 4-2-3-1 in a 0-0 draw when City with their "incredible home record" scarcely crossed the halfway line

A 1-0 win for Spurs is hardly some kind of breathtaking attacking display

We should probably wait until after Sunday to start thinking about this possibility. They might yet finish 3rd at Arsenal's expense.

And yet they looked solid and kept a clean sheet. Modric's partner, the impressive Huddlestone, is hardly a Makelele type either. Rafa would never in a million years play Modric as a central midfield player flanked by two wingers and behind two out and out strikers, and to be fair nor would I!

How is it working for them?
              Thought EXACTLY that last night
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

finishing 3rd doesn't change anything, they'll still be in the last qual. round, and they'll still get one of the clubs shaggy mentioned previously in the thread, not the easiest opponents, and hardly guranteed they'll be in the group stages of the CL

No, I think third goes straight in now.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Every season it's different, partially to do with coefficients and the whim of UEFA. This information is always next to impossible to find on the UEFA web****e, so I'm going with the genius who put together the following wikipedia entry.

                        2010–11 UEFA Champions League

Top 3 from England, Spain and Italy go straight into the group stages.

still arsenal have a home game against fulham who'll probably field a not so strong squad

Are you trying to make a 0-0 sound better than a 1-0 away win?

Spurs were superb, they really should have scored 3 or even 4...
