If City had won it would only have made a marginal difference to the players they could sign. Even if they had got 4th place (in the qualifying round as opposed to the actual CL) they would still be the same not-very-big club with just about zero appeal to the world's top stars. As Torres said "the best players want to play for the biggest clubs. Manchester City are not one of those".

They would have been able to attract the same older B-listers like Bellamy and Adebayor that they signed this year, looking for a big pay day, rather than attract the top players, like Torres, Messi, etc.

These players are all multi-millionaires (so money's not an issue) with their best years ahead of them, so they wouldn't put their reputations on the line by going to such a small club on the off-chance that they could somehow put together a league or CL winning team

I was all for Riise getting sold at the time but he's been badly missed this season.

Spurs were superb last night and Harry Redknapp played a blinder. To go to Man City (who have an incredible home record), in such a crucial game, and to play such an attacking line-up was a breath of fresh air. Even the subs he made were forward thinking - Attacker for an Attacker, RW for a RW, and CM for a CM.

In an away game like that, we would have played an ultra defensive 4-5-1 and would have probably ended up playind 6-4-0

I've got to say this. Redknapp somehow gets a 4-4-2 to work with Luka Modric as one of his central midfield players. That totally flies in the face of all modern tactical thinking. And yet they looked solid and kept a clean sheet. Modric's partner, the impressive Huddlestone, is hardly a Makelele type either. Rafa would never in a million years play Modric as a central midfield player flanked by two wingers and behind two out and out strikers, and to be fair nor would I!
