City confirmed signing of Barry before 1st of July, at that time, even Xabi was still playing in South Africa. We had no idea whether Xabi left or not how could Rafa go for Barry?

My take is that actually Barry was the first candidate if Xabi went, but Barry just signed for City after last season closed and gave us no choice. That's why Rafa was angry to say somethings (like went for money)during press conference.

I thought he was excellent last season. Been a bit hit and miss this season though.

I think it's unfair to compare them directly as they are very different types of player who play in very different roles.

I can only really see Aquilani playing in the Gerrard role off Torres or AN Other.
