The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

As much as I love Rafa, he has to take some blame for the team being so disorganized, he just seems to have lost the plot for a while, which is understandable given the lack of backing and support from the board. It must have been hugely difficult to have to fight on all fronts.

Midfield is a mess IMO and the team doesn't have any balance.
      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I'd say we were a team in decline with a manager in decline.

I think the last comment is true but I don't think it is that far from having it. We need a winger to replace Riera who seems to have lost the plot. I think that would make a huge difference.

If we want to aim to win things we need a lot of changes to compete for a CL place I'm not so sure. I think we could do that on a more or less value neutral basis if none of our key players are sold. If we have to rebuild further due to a sale of Mascherano, Gerrard or Torres then things become much harder.

I said at the start of last season that I thought we were in for a transitional season and I think there was a plan to evolve the team behind what Rafa did. Sadly a lot of factors confounded it - including injuries, players wanting out (a big problem seemingly for Mascherano at the start of the season), etc.
