First team left winger (Turan would be ideal)
    First team left back
    Backup striker
1 defensive midfielder instead of 2
Players encouraged to be more expressive
Youth given more of a chance (Pacheco, Kelly and Shevely especially)
    New owners
    Dalglish?

Controversial, but I think Landon Donovan could offer a lot to the squad. Can play in a few positions. Fast as ****, energetic, scores goals. Proven himself in the premiership.

when we defend a corner i'd like to see Stevie, Torres and/or Babel/new left winger(Arda) on the halfway line against the teams outside the top four. Let them worry when the ball comes out and forces their defenders back.
I remember Barcelona doing this with mess, eto and ronaldinho and it ended up that the opposite team hated getting a corner cause if they didn't score the counter was on with these 3 bearing down.

          I don't think he's good enough.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'd be happy with a forward 3 who are all effective attacking, coupled to a deep lying playmaker (Gerrard), one defensive midfielder, and one box-to-box and I'm happy.

Plus enough depth to cover for injuries.

            Something like:

            Torres
Left Forward - Gerrard - Right Forward
            Box-to-Box - Lucas

I'd be happy with that, perhaps Kuyt could be the right forward IF the left forward was pacy, tricky, hard working, and an eye for goal.

Hey Rich. Are you Rafa in disguise or what?
That looks exactly the sort of line-up we had to endure for most of last season. Rafa expects the "left forward , right forward " to track back whereby we become a 4-5-1 effectively. Torres is isolated up front on his own. No thanks!

442 all the way for me thanks. The donkeys do the donkey work and the strikers score. You don't need to do your UEFA license to see that .
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I was with you till this one. Not sure he's really good enough for us TBH

Maybe if Rafa hadn't ****ed up the whole Robbie Keane situation then we could have played 2 top class strikers and won the ****ing league

sorry mate, i have to disagree. Keane was poor when he was with us. i believed most people cringed when he missed all those sitters. Rafa played him out of position in the left? well, uncle redknapp did the same and funny enough, his dear son did not say how disrespectful that is. It was the sale of Keane that allowed us to play Stevie behind Torres and the rest is history in terms of how we shipped in the goals for fun towards the end of that season. As for Keane, he was on the bench at Spurs and shipped on loan to Celtics....he was a good signing on paper but he did not deliver when he was with us.
                    We going to win #19th!!

keane seemed to perform when we didnt have torres playing but, that arsenal game when he hit that ball on the half volley from over his shoulder was a glimpse of what we were expecting

I said at the time that one of the major problems with him was that he got in the way of both Gerrard and Torres when he played. You can't be a first choice in a team when actively combine badly with the two best players.

only if he was happy to sit on the bench, we should be able to buy players for big money to sit on the bench, thats what has made chelsea and utd good. so many players who they payed decent money for and are happy to stay on the bench.. think about a bench (before riera was a dickhead) that included babel, benayoun, keane and then a few defenders

I agree but to be fair though the players United have paid the money for they have tended to fit the team plan and been able to play alongside the other main players as well as instead of them. A combination of bench places and being able to fight for a first team spot is needed - after the first few games it was clear that Keane wasn't really doing the latter for the reasons we identified.

sorry to be so pessimistic but i dont think we can really have any serious expectations from the coming season.

I have this fear deep down inside that the club will implode this season and that we will be fighting relegation. The club want to bring in hodgson to take over from rafa because roy is a yes man and will do whatever the board want him to do without putting up a fight. Whereas Kenny wouldnt allow them to sell gerrard and co without a fight.

If they decide to sell torres, gerrard, mascherano, kuyt, benayoun and johnson then I dont believe that any of that money will be given back to a manager who is potentially there for only one season. I genuinely believe that this season will see the debt reduced and the playing staff cut leaving our team a shadow of what it was in the previous ones.

We will lose at least 5 - 6 maybe more first team starters for a combined fee of £150m and we wont be making any decent signings. i also believe that the owners never had any intention of building the stadium, and the sole purpose of buying LFC was that they were being offered a really good opportunity at a very good price and they took it with the intention of 'flipping' us to anyone who would pay the increased valuation.

The money that we get from selling players in will go to pay off the owners' debt and they will have their money back leaving our bank loan to RBS as the only debt on the club.

The sole aim for this season has to be retaining our premiership status and nothing more.
