I've gone for a Europa league place (as is covers a pretty broad range of positions as much as anything else).

It's hard to say anything with any certainty until we know which players are staying, what the coaching staff will be, how much of any sales we get to reinvest and then see who we manage to buy. At this stage we don't even know for certain if Jovanovic is coming.

forget about whoever was going to be manager and the owners for a minute - purely looking at the squad I felt we needed two to three players (top left back, good left winger and good striker) this summer to get us back competitive and fighting for a top 4 finish without any major players leaving. - For a title challenge maybe one or two more additions

As it stands at the moment I can't see us competiting with Man City or Spurs and if we lose any key players without major replacements possibly even Villa let alone Chelsea, Mancs or Arsenal.

At best - a 5th place with a cup run in any of the FA/Carling/Europa - sadly i find that pretty ****ing depressing if thats the best i can hope for

I'd say we will be somewhere between 5th and 10th is very realistic.

The only positives i have at the moment are

      1) with expectations so low, anything good that happens will be a welcome suprise

      2) I'm hoping that Roy Hodgson might get an easier ride from the press than rafa did.

Ive gone for top 4, as It's about time somebody else combusted.

Arsenal, Tottenham and United are candidates for a bad season in my opinion. Arsenal will probably lose Fabregas, Tottenham may lose their manager to England in a couple of weeks and United could lose Vidic, Ferdinand is crocked, Rooney just played the worst four games of his life and they don't look like spending BIG, again.

As we've witnessed first-hand, if you don't add quality every window – you tend to go backwards.

I hope the appointment of Hodgson will at least take the pressure off the club, he's media savvy and generally a popular bloke, so we can expect an easier ride.

Agree with all this, altho will be very ****ed off when Roy gets press favour above Rafa.
                3rd place. Worst champions ever.

**** it, gone for the same - I really want to believe we are able to compete next season and that some fresh blood will enable us to do so.

Investment in the club and we are up and running for a good exciting season.

How sad and pathetic our present situation is. I'm not personally sold on Jovanovic yet but I'm hoping he'll sign as he may easily be our only signing...

Only City prevented me from saying top four. I think Spurs might struggle to balance CL with premiership, and I still think that our first eleven are a match for anyone.

All depends on whether Roy is able to keep Torres and Gerrard, and allowed to spend any of the money that comes in from selling others though. At this stage, I'd say top 5 is where I think we'll be, but I hope we'll be higher still.

Agree with this. IF! we can keep all of our top players fit for the entire season then I think we're in with a shout for top 4 but after the last couple of seasons I'm not too hopeful of that happening.

Add to the fact that we'll probably be outspent by Birmingham, Sunderland and probably even Everton, we're going to struggle with the big holes in our squad that cost us so badly last season.

Really hope that Hodgson can rally and inspire the troops to get off to a good start.
