John McMahon returns to his old stomping ground as a Liverpool XI face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park tonight - watch the action and all the build-up live on LFC TV from 6.30pm BST.
The Reds coach, who has led the club to a double Senior Cup triumph already this summer, enjoyed two stints as caretaker manager during his time with the League One outfit.
He admits he is looking forward to reacquainting himself with some old friends and feels the League One outfit will provide his side with a stern test - regardless of who is in the Reds' starting XI.
"It'll be a good game for us," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"I'm sure Tranmere will be as competitive as ever. It's always great to go back there, so hopefully we can put on a good performance.
"Les (Parry) is a good friend of mine, so it will be nice to see him again as well as a number of familiar faces.
"It's a Merseyside derby and both teams will want to do their best.
"One thing's for sure, whatever side we take, we know it will be a competitive game and we will look forward to it."
Two Academy stars who have been in superb form for McMahon throughout the pre-season are Andre Wisdom and Conor Coady.
The duo won the U17 European Championships with England back in June and the coach admits they have further enhanced their reputations in the recent matches against Wrexham, Oldham and Skelmersdale United.
"We've got two 17-year-olds who have been playing in really competitive games recently," he added.
"They are inexperienced, but they are learning quickly and we hope they will continue to develop into two very good players."
LFC TV is currently FREE to watch in the UK on Sky channel 434 and Virgin channel 544 (as part of the XL pack).
You can also watch LFC TV online with our fantastic e-Season Ticket package.
