My house mate is a Sunderland fan so I keep track of how they do. They are a match for anyone at home but are usually pretty weak on their travels, though they did end up with a point from Old Trafford last season, only a late Anton Ferdinand OG preventing the win. We should win.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostThey were the better side in their match against Arsenal on Saturday, an given our fragility, I'd expect them to be a match for us, but I think we'll shade it.
As long as the midield is set right with some combination of Gerrard/Raul and PoulsenForwards.......

I really hope we can get a minimum of 13 points as people are saying, but to be honest I'm not overly confident that we will. Even if we were to put the derby to one side I'm not confident of us getting 4 wins out of the other 4 games (despite 3 being at home).
I know that we've had some difficult games so far this season, but we've struggled to create chances in some of the easier games, and we seem to lack creativity movement and flair going forward, as well as any real kind of tempo to our play. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The Sunderland game is now looking massive and very scary, now I've been following Liverpool since 1973 and I've seen a lot of ups and downs in my time but this really does feel like a kind of draw the line in the sand kind of game. Win and I mean win well I feel we could push on, lose, draw or even win one nil in a very scrappy way I really feel our season could unravel very quickly.Originally posted by red g View PostWell not even out of September and here is the first 'season starts here' thread
5 extremely hard games out of the way and lets face it we havent impressed at all.
But its all about the next 5.......We have to get 13pts imo to start the upward curve or the knives will be out for Roy big time. I am becoming increasingly worried by the game over hodgson's appointment but in the following 5 fixtures and with Merieles, Cole, Torres and Gerrard all in tandem we have to see Goals, Creativity and a will to win that has been so sadly lacking from last season and into this one.
I said in another thread its not the last 5 that defiine our season its the next 5.....Do well in these and we can look to the season with a reasonable optimism anything less than 10pts and I fear for Roy.

Some of the posters on here are saying that we've had a very hard start to the season and the next 5 games look easy, it's true we have and whilst defeat is always a hard pill to swallow its the way we are getting beat that I find disturbing, okay so we haven't got a side packed with 20, 30, 40 million pound players but the very least I expect from any player wearing a red shirt is to show a bit of heart and battle for the colours. I'm afraid yesterday, and I know it was away at OT but we looked beaten before a ball was kicked. I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious but we are going through a massive transitional phase and its going to be very hard to stomach, I personally think the next five fixtures look very tricky indeed. I don't know what all the answers are and there's going to be no quick fix, maybe ease some youngsters into the side they might just show a bit of enthusiasm a bit of bite because Roy's going to have to start making some very difficult decisions because this cautious approach is killing us.
Sorry about the post I know it all seems doom and gloom at the moment, just had to get that of my chest because otherwise my missus just gets it in the ear.
On a small note, some of the comments on this forum are spot on and some I completely disagree with but at the end of the day everybody is entitled to their opinion. Football eh, drives us bloody mad!

Minimum of 13 points out of the 15, tough ask as there are some very difficult and physical games ahead, but has to be done if we want to even start considering the Champs League, City have some tough games coming up, and Spurs will be stretched with the Champs League as they will have to play their strongest side every game. With the big teams playing each other over next few weeks its a golden oppurtunity for us to catch up some points, hopefully Chelsea so City next week. We need to capitalise on every mistake made by teams challenging for top 4.
I'm not reading too much into our season so far, new players are starting to bed in and adapting to their premier league, its been a baptism of fire for Roy, he has made mistakes no doubt but also has been unlucky with certain factors, hopefully he is starting to learn his best team and to get them playing the way he wants, difficult for a team to adjust after playing a certain way for so long.
He needs to bench Skrtel and Maxi IMO, i really hope he does, Agger's comments worry me and to be honest he is streets ahead of Skrtel in every level so he has grounds to be ****ed off i think, we are missing a commanding CB badly, same as a proper LM, these must be addressed come January. Also Maxi is useless, there is no two ways about it this guy offers us absolutely zero,no thanks. If ever there was a perfect tie to try Babel on the right it is now. Poulsen has been very good and Merieles looks way ahead of Aqua and Lucas so far, Konch is average but functional, would love Aurelio first choice but he's too busy being injured every 5 minutes, absolute crock.
We are more than capable of getting 15 points but realistically **** happens and 13 points would be excellent and would set the ball rolling.Last edited by danperkins; 20-09-10, 03:53 PM.

i dont see why all the negativity on here!
cole, carra, reina, ste - all have come out today and said how impressed they are with the way roy is setting about re-inventing the team / tactics. they are all happy with the way we passed the ball against manure and all are focused on getting full points from these games.
i know there are no "easy" games in the prem league - but these games coming up are "easy" games!
sunderland are plucky at best but erratic in form and shouldnt be much of a problem.
blackpool will wilt under our new "passing" game roy is intstilling in us after rafas long ball nonsense.
every player will be up for horsing neverton - 3-0 easy!
blackburn will cave under sustained pressure.
bolton will be a scrappy affair but one which we will battle for a win.
remember, the manure game was the first time roy has had a first choice team out that was actually fit. with more games and more time to instill an attacking frame of mind in his players (something not easy to do after 5 years of neagative ****) we will improve - and what a 5 game run to have in which to gel as a unit.
5 games = 5 wins - mark my words.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

If we dont get into double figures at least then I think that there at least has to be a review of the situation with some tough questions asked.
If we have say 3 draws and two wins the I think that will not be satisfactory. THere hasnt been enough changes to warrant such a drastic change in fortunes.Jacques Brel is alive and well and playing at Anfield

If we go out and attack and actually play football we should win all 5, if sit back and decide to go with the save and cautious approach IMO it'll back fire. We have the attacking ability to destroy teams, we have some world class players that need us to actually play attacking football, Torres is desperate to be involved and there is **** all service coming up to him, he is getting isolated and frustrated and rightly so and its affecting his performance, we should be playing to the strengths of our best players and building the team around them.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Posti dont see why all the negativity on here!

Roys first full season at Fulham, comparable results.........
man city Fulham won 3-1
WBA Fulham won 2-0
man u Fulham lost 3-0
arsenal Fulham won 1-0
birmingham not in div........
Roy managed to get more out of his Fulham team than he has this Liverpol team in his first full season; although Roy had from December from previous season to shape his team in fairness.
I am just really worrying we have replaced a manager whose first concern is to nulify the opposition to one who is actually happy with picking up points rather than going for 3_____________________________________

If we have any aspirations for top 4 we must get at least 13 points in next 5. I think things will start to roll when we get few wins in a row but for that to happen we must open up, press and play aggressive, attacking style of football.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI honestly think we have to be looking at 13 pts minimum. As PTP says, the home games are must win. Bolton away is easier now they've become more of a football team and less of a rugby outfit - think we can win that if we've managed to lift ourselves and our confidence. And we've got a great record at Woodison too.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Err, that is a massive difference in fairness mate as the reason we've been so poor has been a fact everyone is struggling with the new ideas.Originally posted by red g View Postalthough Roy had from December from previous season to shape his team in fairness.
Bet he didn't have loads of players coming back from an international tourney then either.Forwards.......
