today we probably had a team that cost at least £30m and we were playing a team that probably spent £300k on theirs.
hodgson isnt getting the best out of the players and people can say whatever they like about the depth and quality of the fringe players, if we cant beat northampton at home then the manager has to take the blame.
we've been playing rubbish football since he took charge and its utterly demoralising stuff if youre a liverpool fan. for some of the fringe players like babel, pacheco and spearing its bad news if you cant impress against league 2 defenders.

Rafa is out of the question, full stop.Originally posted by Tee View PostAnd I want to wake up every morning in bed with Cheryl Cole....
Rafa is out of the questin until new owners come in. Lets be honest, our only realistic option right now is Kenny. As has been said already, how the **** he was overlooked in the summer is just criminal, especially considering how desperate he was for the job as well.
I still don't know why he was sacked - sorry, let go "by mutual consent"
Well, I do know, but it's not because seventh was unacceptable to the club hierarchy because his replacement stands no chance of bettering it to any significant extent.
And I still don't know why anyone bothers to defend Purslow in all this.
But hey ho, maybe Hodgson will prove us all wrong in time..

they will be in the fight for the big prizes. we wont

he has bought ****
but saying that lacks context. We are a club on a downward slope at the moment. Now with the money situation then we arent going to buy the likes of masch etc so Roy needs to buy players below that level.
He might just feel for where we are and hs plan to steady the ship that players he knows and can do a steady job are just what is needed.
context can help alot.
i dont like the players he has bought but who would we have bought?
i know not letting insua go may have been the answer but maybe the answer was to develop in another league or the fact that he gets lots of stick so a steady eddy has to come in.

But, playing devil's advocate:Originally posted by Lecter View PostI said this in the other thread and stand by it
Worst start for 18 years in the league
Fail to win Saturday and its the worst start for over 50 years (since we got relegated in the 50's)
Out of the League Cup by a side 17th in League 2 (or 3rd from bottom in the 4th division for any old arses like me out there)
He NEVER should have been appointed and how the **** we overlooked Kenny for him is beyond ****ing belief
worst fixture list for first 5 games in 18 years (we're actually only a point worse off than same fixtures last year, despite the timing of these fixtures, the general upheaval at the club and having a new manager trying to get the players playing and thinking in a different way).
Who gives a toss about the Carling Cup? ****ing embarrassing way to go out of it, but we were never going to prioritise or win it.
Great start to Europa campaign.
We used to take the piss out of foreign clubs that would sack their manager after just half a dozen games, when they've just bought the players that they want over the summer, when a new manager won't be able to sign anyone until January, and before the current manager has had a chance to get the team playing the way he wants. I had big doubts about appointing Roy too, but it's far too early to be thinking about sacking him.
I stand by my comments in the previous thread too - if we get 10 points from 12 in the league now (as we should expect) then things will be looking a lot better and tonight will be forgotten. Drop many more points against Sunderland, Blackpool, Everton and Blackburn, and then it's fair to start to question where he's leading us and think about sacking him.Last edited by calvoboy; 22-09-10, 11:18 PM.

Rafa had 5 years by my book and only once came even close to winning the league, and even then we never looked like winning it after throwing it away.Originally posted by merlboo View Postcouldn't care less ?
and your judging him on one bad season and one questionable buy ...your not a geordie are you ?...
I think overall he did okay in the league, but he was hardly fantastic and went three years without winning a major trophy. If you then push out a vital squad member and end up 7th and crashing out of the CL group stages you have to accept you are at risk.
Personally I'd have loved him to have been backed with money after he came 2nd and maybe we'd be talking about something different. But it is what it is.Forwards.......

Hmm, are you being sarcastic?Originally posted by ronanm View PostFFS - Sack Roy, "he's got another 5 games", Rafa would do better etc. SHOULD they be good enough to beat Northampton? How many Liverpool youngsters have come through in the last 5 years? Where are those that are now "of age" plying their trade?Rafa had £38m and he blew it on GJ and Aqualiani. How much has Hodgo spent this transfer window trying to right those wrongs? We have Cole, Raul, Konchesky (yes, even him) and Poulsen -more astute signings than King Benitez made in the past few years.

That completely ignores all nuances, well done. Nice massive oversimplification there of last seasons transfers there.Originally posted by ronanm View PostFFS - Sack Roy, "he's got another 5 games", Rafa would do better etc. SHOULD they be good enough to beat Northampton? Insua had a year left on his contract, just like Arbeloa did when we let him go.
