So it would cost us something like £3m-£4m to sack him.

The longer time he stays the longer time it will get for a new manager to get the team play pass and move football again.

He already made that more difficult when he loaned out Aquilani and signed Poulsen and loaned out Insua and signed Konchesky.

If he is allowed to spend any money in January then the new manager will need to sign even more players to change the squad to pass and move football.

I've taken the liberty of blanking out the superfluous words.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

            Well invariably every time....

if a manager buys decent players they tend to keep their jobs

And is why he didn't hesitate in accepting the job. I doubt he'd have accepted the job if that wasn't in his clause.

I think that he already given up and is only staying because of the money.

Even an idiot can see that he lost the dressing room. The players simply don't give a **** what he say anymore.

He lost the dressing room at Blackburn so he is used to it.

                    By Harry Harris, Football Correspondent

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton has confirmed to ESPNsoccernet that the future of manager Roy Hodgson following a takeover is catered for in the provisions of his contract.

Prospective owners New England Sports Ventures (NESV), led by John W Henry, plans to sit down with Hodgson once the deal is complete to discuss his vision for Liverpool's future.

The men who own the Boston Red Sox have no immediate plans to install their own manager but Broughton was brutally honest about the situation Hodgson now faces, and how Hodgson entered into his Liverpool contract with his eyes wide open.

In an exclusive interview with ESPNsoccernet, Broughton revealed: "Roy knew when he signed up from Fulham that we were in the process of finding new owners, it was not a surprise to him. He was fully reconciled with the possibility there would be an ownership chance and the risk involved with that.

"But Roy is self confident and was, when he signed up, confident he was capable of doing the job at Liverpool. With that in mind provisions were made in Roy's contract to relate specifically to any change in ownership."

The 'break clause' in Hodgson's contract was revealed by ESPNsoccernet this week, although even then there were no hints that a change in manager was being planned immediately.

"I suggested that the clause relates to Hodgson being paid a full year's salary within 28 days should the new owners want to bring in their own manager," Broughton commented: "I don't have Roy's contract in front of me, so I can't comment on that, but it is something like that in his contract.

"But he came to the club knowing full well the circumstances and the risks attached to it."

Hodgson will have to prove himself to the new owners. Broughton added: "I would full expect Roy to continue as manager and there has been no indication to me to suggest otherwise. However, as we all know, at the end of the day, everything depends on results."

                    Clicky

I think it's fair to say that Roy is a dead man walking. Personally, he'll have done well to survive past the Everton game should we lose that match. I am more and more optimistic that he'll be gone before Christmas.
Sounds promising, fingers crossed it will sooner rather later.

United won only the League Cup last season and went through most of the campaign with a misfiring £32m centre forward on their bench. No-one said anything, reason being their manager is proven to be successful. So ****ing what. He should have to play by the same rules as everyone else.

And at the same time people having a pop at Rafa for wasting large sums of money on the likes of Lucas who cost £6m
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It cost us about £8-9m to replace Rafa with Roy (Rafa's payoff and compensation to Fulham) and it would cost us a further £3-4m to get rid of Hodgson and that's before we pay compensation for a replacement. If Hodgson is replaced it could end up costing us ~£16m to effectively replace Rafa, that would have gone a long way to buying us a quality player

We will need another midfield player capable of making the play from that position like alonso did. Aquilani has the range but doesnt have the heart. Other than him (and gerrard who should be playing behind fernando) we dont have anyone.
He plays in a completely different position to Alonso. The latter is a defensive midfielder whilst Meireles is an attacking midfielder, so it's pointless comparing the two

I don't care what it costs us to sack him, it's worth every penny. If we get a 9 point penalty the cost of relegation by keeping this dinosaur and his stone age tactics will be much greater. And I wouldn't put it past him to get a team with Torres, Gerrard, Cole and Reina relegated in those circumstances. On Sunday he was standing on the touchline like a clueless idiot, completely helpless. And what did he do to change things? Brings on Maxi with 2 mins to go. If he can't motivate players to put more than 12 mins of effort as on Sunday I've no idea what he's doing at the club. And I'm also sick of him telling us how we should be supporting out club and that our expectations are too high. He's the one with the problem as he's obviously never managed anywhere where the expectations are greater than surviving in the given league. Roy, do us all a favour and take your unambitious primitive attitude back to the part timers you've managed, we don't want them here

mireiles is, in point of fact, a box to box midfielder by nature.

Maybe there's a reason why we should be in the relegation zone before Christmas. Just thinking out loud.
