    Out for 3-4 weeks

Steven Gerrard could face a three to four week spell on the sidelines after sustaining a 'significant' hamstring injury on England duty.

The skipper will have a scan later today but an early assessment has already been made by the club's medical team at Melwood.

Gerrard left the field after 85 minutes of England's 2-1 defeat to France on Wednesday night.

Dr Peter Brukner told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Steven injured his hamstring last night. He's just been in for an early assessment here and it certainly looks like a significant hamstring injury.

"He's just heading off for a scan as we speak and we should have the results of that tonight.

"He's going to be out for a little while, I'm afraid. I'd imagine it could be three to four weeks."

Fans were disappointed to see Gerrard play almost 90 minutes of the friendly encounter but Dr Brukner remains philosophical.

"If you put your hand up to play for your country, you've got to accept how long they want you to play for," he said.

"There were obviously circumstances last night which came together to result in Steven playing for a bit longer than we'd hoped, which is disappointing but there's nothing we can do about that now.

"We'll move on and work as hard as we can to get him back playing for Liverpool as soon as possible."

I know it wont make you feel better but i think we all knew this season was a write before it started.

Some of our fringe players have been known to up their game and take on more responsibility when Gerrard isn’t playing. We can only pray that this is the case now.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Wonder will Roy actually play Meireles in the centre with Lucas/Poulsen now that Stevie is out for 3-4 weeks?

I'd like to think so but this is a devastating blow, i can see Spurs properly tanking us at WHL Sunday week, with Gerrard we're still ****, without him we're unbelievably ****.

It's a real shame because despite how depressing this season has been, i think we've started to see the real Stevie Gerrard again - he's looked fitter and more determined that ever. **** England and **** Capello!! Cunts!!

This time tho we have players like Poulsen and Meireles filling the void or whatever you want to call it, whereas before we had the quality of both Alonso and Mascherano to call upon in Gerrard's absense.

This is terrible news, it really is.

I was thinking more of the Biscan, Smicer days to be honest or more recently with the likes of Lucas.
