Torres was clearly injured on Saturday (and his performance subsequently suffered) and Roy said afterwards that he knew he was injured and it was affecting his performance but you just dont take your goalscorer off the pitch

Kuyt should never have played three games in a week after coming back early from a fairly serious ankle injury. I'm not going to compare Roy to the last manager's attitude but it is clear that Roy is thinking in the here and now rather than the future. In general, as evidenced by his team selections, i don't think he believes in squad rotation and when he does rotate (ie the Northampton game) he changes all 18 players leaving the youngsters and reserves exposed without any senior help, and then he has the nerve to say they're not up to the job.

Of those available, I'd be happy to see Spearing alongside Meireles.

Think Spearing gets a lot of bad press on here for some reason. I still think he's a decent player, capable of doing a job when called upon and certainly good enough for a mid-low table Prem team.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

          A 100% Ngog is a much better option than a 70% fit Torres 24/7.

You simply don't play Torres for example just because he is Torres. If he gets a knock then you take him off. You don't risk the rest of season playing him injured.

Trust the youngsters to fill in when needed to. Like in the Kuyt case or in the Torres one.

Show that you trust them to do a good job.

I'm just happy that Roy's stupid idiotic decisions hasn't ended up us losing Torres and Kuyt several months because it was a big chance that it could have done that and our manager knew about it but simply didn't give a ****.

Look at the stick Rafa got from many on here for taking him off when tired or unfit last season. I really don't think it would be only Roy who would take that attitude. It is often expressed on here and you see a similar strategy adopted by a lot of managers.

I guess the real problem with it is the signal it sends out of his lack of faith in other players.

It is a difficult balance to get right. Part of the problem is that Roy clearly feels that the players he has are less suited to his style than the ones he had a Fulham. He is willing to accept that in the likes of Gerrard as the gap in ability is clear but clearly not for those of a lesser standard. Again a lot of managers like Moyes have done well by trying to keep selection as consistent as possible.

The Northampton thing was very poor - that is undoubted.

With a few injuries now his attitude to the fringe players might well bite him in the arse.

Did Roy not play Riera,Benny,Agger,Gerrard,Torres etc last season when they were not 100% or literally just back from injury?

I remember the old horsey injections. When Rafa wanted to play a player he was played regardless of just getting back from injury or not. Managers under pressure seem to take these risks. Had to conversation so many times last season.

If Kuyt came back it's because he was injured not because Holland are a nice country with a nice manager. Now that doesn't mean he won't be fit for West Ham as it may have been an impact injury but still.

Oh and any PL game with Spearing starting is an embarrassment to this football club
Starting with Poulsen is also an embarrassment to the club. Spearing is more mobile and has a better range of passing than Poulsen, so should definitely start before him. Unless you want to throw Shelvey in CM.

I think our ****e season has clouded your sense of time. Roy only got appointed manager at the start of this season.

He played them but not full games. He either took them off after sixty or so minutes or used them as a sub in the first game/games after an injury.

The reaction when he took off Torres for example was just laughable just because he wanted to protect him and think about a players long term fitness.

The from Gerrard from example in one game. That is idiotic reactions.

dww explained a part of the problem.

They simply don't care about a players fitness in two three months time. We had a manager that we complained about calculated almost everything.

Look at the way he used Lucas for example. Subbed in almost every game in either the 78th, 66th or 61st minute. Calculated because he cared about his long term fitness.

our ****e season has done many things for me, none of them good. I'm not even going to edit my post

And merely pointing out Rafa blatantly did exactly what people are complaining about Roy of the Rovers did with Torres, actually much worse. And thats starting with these players, not a player picking up a knock late on in the game.

A thread turning into a Roy vs. Rafa thread... How refreshing.

I think that you will find out that Torres almost never got injured when he played for us the last couple of years with Rafa in charge because he knew how much he could use him. He got injured time after time playing for the national team.

.no reporting that Torres, Johnson, Kuyt and Skrtel are all fit to play this weekend.
