I remember at Rodgers' press conference he said something like 'we've got some money, but not a wheel-barrow full of money'. He wasn't joking, it seems like we haven't got a Tonka Wheelbarrow full of cash - sell-to-buy, having to whore players around the premiership, forcing out players who don't want to go - all the while in a mass hysteria about the wage bill and for the first time in years, looking at loans. I actually think we should be looking at loaning quality players, but there's gotta be a reason why it's suddenly now that we are using the market. I really looks like the LFC manager has been given next to no cash. Depressing stuff.

Agger is a quality player who seems to actually give a ****e about the club (hello Fernando) and there is no way we should be selling him, especially as we are not a particularly attractive proposition to most top players at the moment.

and for those fees going by a 30 mill price on agger we could 7 mill sitting in the pocket for further reinforcements like sahin
        We could do all that

        We wont though

If we get that money in expect a sizeable amount to be spent on Allen

Skittles was the one making noises about leaving cos he wanted to see the clubs ambitions going forward. If we sell his defensive partner he'll have seen all he needs to and it won't be long before we are trying to replace him too. Who next after that, I'm betting Reina.

Selling Agger sends all the wrong signals, to supporters and players alike, regardless of his injury record or the size of fee.

Make some top notch signings first, then make your sales. Other way around is madness for more than one reason, not least because other clubs will know how much money we have to spend if we sell first, buy second. Andy Carroll fee being the perfect example.

I've been worried about FSG for some time, the rest of this window will be a big indicator if those worries are warranted.

I think there are a few things that have and are hinderring us this window

Firstly the pay offs to Kenny, Comolli & staff and the pay offs required to get Rodgers & staff. I dont think anyone should underestimate the enormous sums of money involved in doing this

Secondly we have also had to pay off Aquilani which is again another sizeable amount and we probably also had to do the same with Maxi

So we are scratching around and hes looking at ways of raising money to get in some players he requires

Its pretty clear he wanted the money from Carroll but I genuinely think that has been so badly mismanaged that if we do sell the amount coming in still wont be enough to even land someone like Joe Allen

So we are scratching around and looking at selling Agger to raise the cash to purchase the players he wants

Its a massive gamble and its one we shouldnt be taking

The thing is the way I see it - if we don't change the squad to play as Rodgers wants to play then there was **** all point in all those pay offs and we won't progress as a team either. Then next season Aggers value will be lower and we end up selling anyway. Whatever we do in this situation seems a gamble to me.

The worst thing from my point of view would be to leave a manager who we have already invested heavily in acquiring the impression he isn't able to do the job as he sees fit.

Second leg Agger upped his game came back fighting and took his game to a higher level. Had Drogba in his pocket, and still found time to score a goal. He is a winner, a warrior, and also a classy footballer, which other CB you can think of has the ability to hammer one in the top corner from 30 yards.

I then loved it when Agger came out and spoke up against Hodgson. At this point he was defending the actual style of football that Liverpool stand for. It needed to be said and Agger (alone) said it.

Then, to top it all, when our star striker abandoned ship and joined Chelsea, a move which devastated everyone attached to the club (at the time), who showed us how we should really feel about it? Yep. Agger, smashed Torres in the face first chance he got and dominated him all game. Agger is a winner. And Torres, you could argue has never been the same since.

He is the future captain of our club, he is ****ing great

This is why we shouldn't sell Agger. You just can't go out and buy these qualities

Not really. The end of next season might though.

Should'nt come at the expense of losing our bettter players though, especially as Agger is one that can also fit into a BR system.

The owners made the mistakes with appointments, that's why we've had to pay them off, so if they now want to give BR money so he can build his vision, get it from elsewhere, but not by selling players like Agger. imo

Great post, and sums up accurately what I think of him. Players with that type of mentality, that determination and just skill aren't easy to come by. He's been vital to us playing well since he became established - I always feel a lot more confident seeing his name on the team sheet. I was hoping he'd be the new Sami, as in a career spent at Liverpool. I can't agree with the logic in selling him, the defence is a platform we should be building on, not dismantling.

                          He's over-rated.

Genuinely he is. Very good player, but no less prone to defensive mistakes than Skrtel. He ain't worth £30m of anyone's money

the end fact is this - who are any of us to say what rodgers plans are? who are we to say whether agger fits into his plans or not? i keep reading that this is a "massive gamble" with rumours of agger being sold but is it really? keep as we are and another year of mid table obscurity is likely to be upon us and as dww pointed out what then? by that time agger's value could have halved. it could be argued keeping as is is the bigger gamble in the hope we suddenly click. we need change and if agger is to part of that change then so be it.

in an ideal world agger will stay and we will build from there but at present we are all speculating on nothing but media drivel. rodgers has my complete backing and however he wants to go about his business is fine by me.....................apart from his allen chase

Zero point in getting a new man in with a new vision and then not backing him with money unless he sells one of the few decent players we have left
