I seriously hope you are being ironic

Was a cracking goal and he's finally starting to look the part. Left midfield seems to suit him better as he's a lot more comfortable cutting in on his right. After a shaky start I thought Maxi played well towards the end of last season. I wonder if that also coincided with when he got moved out left.

Nice to see the crisp one touch passing between him, Lucas and Meireles. All three had a very good game.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Getting on well with the Villa fans already -

Aston Villa Evens, Draw 12/5, West Brom 11/4

Gerard Houllier has moved to clarify comments he made following Aston Villa's defeat at Liverpool on Monday, insisting they were "misconstrued".

The Frenchman, who enjoyed a largely successful spell at the helm of Liverpool between 1998 and 2004, suffered a 3-0 defeat on his return to Anfield to leave Villa down in 16th place in the Premier League table.

Houllier enraged Villa supporters with his post-match comments, reportedly remarking that: "If I have got to lose 3-0, I would prefer it to be to them as I like Liverpool."

However Houllier, who took over at Villa Park in September, insists the comments were taken out of context.

Houllier told Villa's official website: "To the fans who travelled to Liverpool and to all Villa supporters, let me assure you that we are working as hard as we possibly can to achieve the level of success which this great club aspires to.

"No-one likes to lose 3-0 against any team and, if comments I made in the immediate aftermath of our defeat by Liverpool have been misconstrued - comments which were intended to be humorous, by the way - let me put them into context.

"The experiences I enjoyed with Liverpool some years ago will always stay with me, as will many experiences I have had in football both before and since, and I have taken all these experiences into my job as manager of Aston Villa.

"I understand the fans' feelings of hurt and disappointment at the moment - I am hurting as much as anybody, believe me - and I say emphatically that we will battle through.

"Building lasting success at Aston Villa is my focus and my commitment to this challenge is resolute."

Houllier went on to hail the club's fans, and called on them to put their full support behind Villa when they take on West Brom at home on Saturday.

"It is down to us collectively as a club to work hard to bring joy and success to the fans because the fans are the most important," he said.

"They are passionate, vocal and fantastic, which I stated when I first came here.
"I will make the boys feel your support"
              Jurgen Klopp June 2020

Heard a comment on the radio the other day, about Villa fans already calling for his head. Laughable really, but what really made me chuckle was when the radio presenter came out with "surely you have to give a manager at least ONE transfer window" - i literally laughed out loud to myself - not because what he said was wrong, but because it's at the point now where people are needing to ASK whether or not a new manager deserves to be given at least one window

It's absurd how quickly fans give up on managers and call for their heads, especially in this case with Villa and Houllier.

                In conclusion: Sack Hodgson!

His one good signing has helped prove his worthlessness. Right midfield

He's been played out of position at RM but we are fortunate to have him at CM now the gerrard is out injured. Where he'll be played when Gerrard returns is my concern

Think we both know the answer to where our quality centre midfielder will be deployed, on the fecking right

I disagree. As supporters, we must have learned something from the appointment of Hodgson. It was clear from the beginning he wasn't good enough and he didn't feel right for the club. We didn't need the summer window to tell us that and if he'd been appointed at the same time as Houllier was then I'd certainly not be saying, "come on, let's give him a window to prove us wrong."

Maybe Aston Villa fans feel the same about Houllier.

Of course clubs have to give a manager a chance so unless the board is bonkers then a manager will always get some time, and hence at least one window, but I don't see why fans can't be opposed to a manager from the off.

We know our clubs better than fans of any club and any journalist. I'm not having some Villa fan (or anyone else who doesn't know the club as well as I do) telling me that it was absurd to call for Hodgson's sacking back in August so I don't think it's right to judge them from a distance either.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

They can be opposed from the off, but the difference with us and Villa's situations, is that Houllier has actually won stuff which, for Villa, would be close to matching (or even beating) their best achievements for over 2 decades.

So from that perspective, GH is someone who is proven to the extent of being able to achieve things which are in line with Villa's own targets/objectives.

Hodgson, on the other hand, has never achieved anything equivalent to the expectations or objectives of LFC.

I agree, the fans know their clubs even better than the owners as well, very true in our instance and probably Aston Villa as well. I can relate to them really and Houllier should have been more careful. We all knew Hodger and Ferguson were friends and yet we were angry about his reactions after the Man Utd. game, Houllier should respect his current club and current fanbase above his former, not view the Villa job as secondary to a previous Liverpool job.
                                * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
