Hamann was coming on regardless, but Traore was originally picked to go off.
I get your point, anyway the change of tactics won it as it freed up Gerrard.

      Nonsense.

Being a striker and being a defender are worlds apart, even if the opposition dont play well.

Craig, don't make me bring up your threads from last March. Unless someone has hijacked your username this summer.....

Ehh... So if the opposition don't play well, then a defender gets some credit?

Bring up all you want mate. I've already been through the ringer about that, with people who have uninformed opinions of my stance.

The few things he had to do - he got skinned by Agbonlahor, despite having a 4-5 yard head start. He had a Villa player down by the goal line/corner, with about 0.02 yards of space, and the fella still dug out a cross.

              He's ****.
You do know that was Downing, not Agbonlahor who actually is fast

Anyhow, I reckon he did well. Still needs to improve, but I think fairness should be observed. He's been garbage this year but did okay tonight.
              Forwards.......

Mate, what are you on about? Seriously?

Villa played ****, but a defence is still there, between you and goal, teams put men behind the ball and it's hard to break through.

It's much harder to score or create a goal, than it is to keep one out.

Yes, it was Downing, i remember now.

He got skinned by both at some point, no doubt

                    I had to agree.

He is a disaster waiting to happen and no time in the world will make any difference in his case.

I'd ask you to clear it up for me, but please don't. At least not in this thread.

                          You're missing the point entirely.

If the opposition is devoid of creativity or chances, and their strikers do nothing - you have your clean sheet without having done anything.

To score/win, you still have to score.

In fairness we were very solid which prevented chances for Villa. When they were allowed space, they did create a couple of chances, which showed they were capable.

and if their defence is devoid of any defensive clout?

In football you have to be good in all three areas to do well.

But I'd rather have a good striker than a good defender. Teams always get relegated because their front men couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, with one exception - Boro and Ravanelli.
