I agree, the fans know their clubs even better than the owners as well, very true in our instance and probably Aston Villa as well. I can relate to them really and Houllier should have been more careful. We all knew Hodger and Ferguson were friends and yet we were angry about his reactions after the Man Utd. game, Houllier should respect his current club and current fanbase above his former, not view the Villa job as secondary to a previous Liverpool job.

I agree with this.

It doesnt, however, have any bearing really on whether or not GH is good enough to make a success of the Villa role. I think he has a track record which suggests he is.

Although he doesnt look like he will be backed massively, unlike O'Neill, who was given fortunes to spend and still couldnt get into the top 4.

He's been played out of position at RM but we are fortunate to have him at CM now the gerrard is out injured. Where he'll be played when Gerrard returns is my concern

What about Cole, where does he fit into the equation? The only person that could possibly be dropped for him at the minute is Kuyt, but I’m not sure he would offer much out right.

My Villa supporting mate despises Houllier. He posted on FB the other day in response to Houllier's ridiculous remarks..."Hey Gerard, if you can free up your weekends you can have a season ticket at Anfield. I'll pay for it myself."

They deserve all they get. Although O’Neil is generally despised on here, finishing 6th every season is quite an achievement and for Villa fans to think they deserve better, well I’m glad they could be looking at a relegation fight instead.

Not that I know of, but a lot of them were happy to see him go, they felt they deserved better football. A poll on SSN (I know ) had them as happy that he was gone although it was quite close.

Houllier's tried to ingrain himself into the fabric and history of OUR club though that he'll never be accepted by another set of UK fans.

They can be opposed from the off, but the difference with us and Villa's situations, is that Houllier has actually won stuff which, for Villa, would be close to matching (or even beating) their best achievements for over 2 decades.

So from that perspective, GH is someone who is proven to the extent of being able to achieve things which are in line with Villa's own targets/objectives.

Hodgson, on the other hand, has never achieved anything equivalent to the expectations or objectives of LFC.

I think it's how the record books might see it too

It's undisputable fact that Houllier has achieved things that Villa and the majority of their fans would be delighted with.

It's not just about that though. I realise you feel this is some kind of objective measure but someone with a different set of values might, uh, value different things.

Someone looking at the same thing from a different perspective may see it differently. If you look at a cylinder from the side, it looks like a rectangle. If you look at it from the end, it looks like a circle.

Unlike the cylinder however, there is no external reality to being a football supporter.

I realise this is a concept you struggle with.

I'm simply saying I don't think it's hard to sympathise with Villa fans, even if we don't agree with them.

I sympathise with them about the 'love-in' situation, i too would be a little miffed at that.

In terms of Houllier though, i think he will do a good job there, if given the time and reasonable resources. From that specific perspective, i dont feel sympathy for them and see no need to - i think he will do well for them.

I sympathise with them for being Brummies But that's a different issue.

Nowhere until he finds some form. He's making the gaffers job easy to keep him on the bench thus far
