Have to say I'm with Craig on this one. I don't see a great deal of similarities between how I see/conceive of Lucas playing and how I do the same for Pirlo. The range of passing would be what I most associate with Pirlo and his tactical control of a game. I like Lucas but I wouldn't say that he excels in either of those regards.

Give Insua four, five years and he will be one of the best left backs out there IF he get a manager that believes in him.Originally posted by red g View Post
You may think that ONE season proves everything when it comes down to a young player. I don't.
It is totally laughable to say that young fullback that had a decent season and improved all the time isn't good enough.
I hope that you don't praise our manager if he gives a young player a chance because you clearly don't want that to happen.Stop the cyberhate

Give him another season or two and he will be more and more attacking. Pirlo wasn't the finished article until 25, 26 years old.
That Lucas plays much better this season is probably because he isn't compared with Masch any more. He is now allowed to play his game and boss the defensive midfield in a different way.
I would say that the Lucas Meireles combination is very similar to the Pirlo and Ambrosini one.
You're one of the most 'red tinted' Reds i've ever come across mate
Long as you're happy though

His short passing game is as good as before. The difference this season is that he is making more and more 20-30 yard passes that finds his team mates.Originally posted by dww View PostHave to say I'm with Craig on this one. Look at the chalk board and compare.

"Last seasons whipping boy"Originally posted by The Birdman View PostIsn't it funny that last season's whipping boy who a lot of posters on here thought was absolute dog **** is now (quite rightly) being recognised
Lucas was one of our best performers last season. However, there were too many people on the Lucas hate wagon who didnt have large enough balls to admit it. Those people know who they are.
This season he is still performing well, in fact better. This is just part of his progression into the outstanding players he is slowly and surely becoming.
Lucas is class, I have said it from day one. Lucas also became the youngest player ever to receive Placar magazine's Bola de Ouro in Brazil. ****e players do not win this trophy. The fact that he was also the youngest to win it speaks louder than any of the ****e written on forums over the last few seasons.
Providing he stays, Lucas will be remembered as a legend
